Chapter 5

Chapter Five

“Yeah, yeah it went really good.” Jamie said as she walked out of the office building that day, talking on her cell phone to somebody. She looked around, putting her purse strap over her shoulder and smiled, “I think they are wanting to buy the script to make a movie out of it. Yeah I know. Okay, let me go. I think I’m going to do some shopping.”

She waved for a taxi that was coming in her direction and smiled a little.

“Okay, talk to ya later. Bye.” Jamie said as the taxi stopped there in front of her and she opened the door and got in.

“Where to ma’am?” the taxi cab driver asked as Jamie put her cell phone in her purse and looked around.

“The nearest mall? Wherever there are a lot of stores.” Jamie said as the driver shook his head, hitting his meter and pulled off.

Jamie smiled as she looked out the window, knowing that her meeting with the publishers went really good. A production company was interested in buying her script that she had written, mostly about her and Nick’s relationship. She never told anybody that it was a true story or that it was about them, but really, it was.

It was the story about they met and was friends at first, and then suddenly one day realized that they had feelings for one another. Then after one little date, they were dating and soon after realized they were in love with each other. Everything in the relationship was perfect until a little twist of fate made them get into a disagreement, which caused them to clash. Something bad happened and she couldn’t forgive him. After that, the girl left him and in the end, they meet back up, realizing they both had changed too much to be friends.

She thought it was really weird since she ran into Nick at the airport the day before but she tried to ignore that fact. She didn’t think that it was fate trying to tell her something. She just thought that it was a coincidence, and that’s all that it was.

And that’s all that it was going to be.

She smiled again, looking out the window at all the people on the sidewalk, walking around until the cab driver turned the radio up and she recognized the singers voice.

Help me

Figure out the difference

Between right and wrong, weak and strong

Day and night where I belong

Help me

Make the right decision

Know which way to turn lessons to learn

And just what my purpose is here

“That’s Nick.” Jamie thought as she sat up and tapped the cab driver on the shoulder.

“Can you turn that up?”, she asked as the driver turned the radio up a little louder and she started to listen.

Wanna know you

More than anything

I need you

In my every dream

You’re there for me

You love me

For who I am

No angel

Just an ordinary man

Jamie sat there with her mouth open, realizing that he was singing alone and she listened to the lyrics. She looked around as the song went off and a DJ came on saying that it was Nick Carter and his brand new single off of his debut solo album.

She sat back in the cab, still in shock as the next song came on the radio. She didn’t keep up with the Backstreet Boys news anymore, so she didn’t know if the group had broken up and he went solo or what. She never asked him what he was doing when she talked to him in the airport. She was trying to be a bitch to him.

Now she was starting to wonder what’s going on.

“About fucking time I get my own way.” Nick said as he walked out of the Jive offices, “I get to do exactly what I want.”

He smiled as he put on his sunglasses and looked around. He hoped the hell nobody recognized him because he didn’t even bring any security with him this time and New York City was fucked up with all the fans or, well stalkers. He straightened his baseball cap and began to walk down the sidewalk.

As he walked, he thought about Jamie, and how he was planning on thanking her in his album thank you’s even though she would probably never even listen to it, he was going to somehow send her a copy. He’d probably have to use Mike to give it to her, but it didn’t matter. One way or another she was going to get it.

He looked over to his left, seeing a little coffee shop, and he walked in going up to order a frappacino. After he paid for it, he walked over to a table and sat down. He pulled out his notebook out of his backpack and pulled out a pen, getting ready to write his thank yous. The waitress brought over his coffee and walked away. Nick smiled as he took a sip of it and then looked back down at his notebook, hitting the top of his pen on the paper. He looked out the window, seeing a girl with long dark hair walk by and he watched her until she turned around and he realized it wasn’t Jamie.

“Well damn.” Nick whispered as he looked back down at the paper when his cell phone rung.

Ring Ring

Nick looked up to see everybody in the coffee shop were checking their cell phones. He laughed as he reached down in his backpack and pulled his out, opening it up.

“Hello?”

“Well…”

“Sup Mike?”

“Got a phone call.” Mike said as Nick looked out the window to see a couple walk by, holding hands.

“So did I. Just now and guess who it was.”

“Who?”

“You.” Nick said as Mike laughed, “What’s up?”

“Got a call from Jamie.”

“Dude, talk to me.” Nick said as he sat up, anxious to see what Mike had to say.

“Well..” Mike said slowly as Nick rolled his eyes, “She heard your song on the radio. She called me all worried, wondering what was going on and why you were coming out with a solo album and all of that. She wanted to know if something was wrong with the group and did they break up and dude, I didn’t realize that I’ve become your PR person.”

“I’ll give you a bonus next month. What did she say when you told her?” Nick asked as he looked down at the paper.

“She said she was glad that everything was okay. She also said that a production company there in Hollywood wants to buy her script she thinks. She sounded really happy.” Mike said as Nick smiled a little, “She also told me that she was coming home in two days.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.”

“Damn.”

“So whatever you were planning to do. Better do it then.” Mike said, “Let me go. Your brother is being a damn punk.”

“Ha! Alright, thanks.”

“Welcome. Later.” Mike said as he hung up. Nick smiled as he closed his phone and stuck it back in his backpack, looking down at his notebook as he began to write something.

Jamie walked through the huge mall, looking at all of the stores there to choose from. She’d already been to Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, and The Gap, and had a few bags her hands. She had decided to leave when she was about to walk out of the mall and saw a store out of the corner of her eye.

Baby Gap.

She walked over, smiling a little, going up to the window to see a little mannequin wearing a little pink t-shirt and jean overalls. She smiled, walking into the store and looked around to find the little girl clothing. She walked around the different racks, looking at the little Gap dresses, and t-shirt and short outfits. She even saw a little pair of Gap jeans that would fit a newborn. She looked around until she saw a pair of little pink overalls and she took them off of the rack, and looked at them, smiling.

“I’m so damn glad to be home.” Nick said as him and Jamie laid there in bed that night, “I don’t wanna leave this bed until next year.”

“Me either.” Jamie said as she smiled, wrapping her arms around him and putting her head up on his shoulder, “I missed you.”

“I know. I’ve been gone too long.”

“Yes, you have and it sucks that I could barely come and see you.”

“You’re off being smart.”

“Yeah I know.” Jamie said as she laughed, “Guess what?”

“What?”

“Remember my friend Michelle, that’s in my communication’s class that I told you about?”

“Yeah, I remember her.” Nick said as he looked at Jamie, “What about her?”

“She found out that she was pregnant yesterday.” Jamie said, “I forgot to tell you on the phone last night.”

“No way, when’s she due?”

“July. Her and her boyfriend are getting married on Valentine’s Day.” Jamie said, “She wants me to be a bridesmaid because she doesn’t have many friends.”

“Cool. Man that’s whack.” Nick said, “Someone our age having a kid.”

“I know. I mean, that could happen to us.” Jamie said, looking up at him.

“Yeah I know, but atleast we love each other. You told me that she told you she didn’t know if she loved him the other day and now she’s having his baby and they’re getting married.”

“Yeah I know. Her parents are making her get married.” Jamie said.

“That sucks.”

“I know.”

“I want to have a baby one day.” Nick said as he looked over at her, “It would be cool, well I think it would.”

“Cool?” Jamie asked as she started to laugh a little.

“I mean, seeing a miniature version of myself.”

“You have Aaron.”

“Okay then. True. You have a point.” Nick said as Jamie laughed, “So a miniature version of you.”

“That would be cool one day.” Jamie said as Nick smiled over at her.

“We could stay home all day and just have kids. That could be our job, to populate the world.”

“Okay, you’re talking out of your mind now.” Jamie said as Nick looked in shock.

“Whaaaaaat?” Nick asked laughing a she leaned over, kissing Jamie until he rolled over, on top of her and began to kiss her deeply.

“Ma’am, can I help you?” the saleslady said as Jamie jumped, and looked at her, “Can I help you with something?”

“Oh no. I’m fine. I was just looking.” Jamie said as she put the set of overalls back on the rack. She smiled at he lady and started to walk out of the store fast. She left the store and she started to become teary eyed. She looked over, seeing a bathroom and she ran in, going to the first stall that she could see.

Jamie practically ran into the stall, shutting and locking the door and dropped her bags as she put her hands over her face, leaning up against the door as she broke down in tears. She cried until she heard someone else walk in and she tried to stop. She grabbed a piece of tissue and wiped hear tears away and God bless the person that invented waterproof mascara.

She leaned her head back up against the door banging it a little.

“Why did I have to run into him?” she thought to herself as she looked down at her purse that was in her hands, “I was doing so good until I saw him and now I’ve just completely broke down.”

Finally she picked up her bags after the person had left the bathroom and she opened up the door, walking over to look in the mirror. Her eyes were puffy and you could tell that she had been crying. She took a deep breath and walked back over to the door.

It was time to go back to the hotel.

Four hours later, Nick sat there in the same coffee looking down at his page of thank yous he had written. He looked down to see the first person he thanked, which was Jamie and smiled at what he wrote.

“Hmm” Nick thought to himself as he began to read them to himself, “To Jamie, who came into my life when I wasn’t expecting to find love and then I fell in love with -”

He stopped reading them when he heard a baby cry and he looked over at the lady sitting at the table next to him, with a small carrier sitting on the table and a newborn baby inside.

“Time to go.” Nick thought as he took a sip of his drink and threw his things in his backpack. He didn’t even had it zipped before he picked it up and started out of the coffee shop and looked around to see a woman coming towards him with a stroller, “Yeah it’s time to go.”, he thought as he began to walk down the sidewalk , finally catching a cab and getting in.
