Chapter Ten

“We need to talk Jamie.” Nick said as Jamie looked back over at him.

“I have nothing to say to you.”

“Yes you do.”

“No. I don’t.” Jamie said as Nick walked up in front of her and she looked away, “Don’t look at me.”

“Jamie! We need to fucking talk!” Nick yelled as she stared at him, “Because if we don’t, then I fucking can’t go on and I know you can’t.”

“You don’t know what the fuck your talking about.” Jamie said, staring him in the eyes, “I don’t need to talk to you.”

“Yes you do.”

“NO I DON’T!”

“You hate me.”

“Yes I do.”

“I don’t hate you.”

“I hate you.”

“Listen to me.” Nick said as he put his hands on her arms, looking her in the eyes, “We need to talk about some things.”

“I. Don’t. Need. To. Talk. To. You!” Jamie said as she pushed Nick away from her, “Don’t come telling me what the hell I need to do ever again! I can do whatever I want to do!”

“Do you want to talk to me?”

“Didn’t I just tell you no!”

“Will you talk to me, please?” Nick asked, as Jamie looked away, “Please.”

“Don’t beg.” Jamie said, “I don’t have anything to say to you. The run in at the airport was nice. We saw each other. We talked a few minutes, but Nick - that’s all.”

“I still love you.”

“Start the elevator back.”

“Not yet.”

“Start the elevator back.”

“Jamie -”

“Nick.” Jamie said, staring at him, “Start the elevator back.”

“No. I’m not.” Nick said as Jamie walked up to him, pushing him to the other side of the elevator, “What are you doing.”

“Start the elevator back.”

“Will you just talk to me please?!?!” Nick screamed as Jamie rolled her eyes, “Please. Go out to dinner with me and just talk to me, please?”

“Nick-”

“Please?”

“Fine.” Jamie said as she turned around and walked to the other side of the elevator. Nick stood there and smiled, and walked over and reached for the button, starting the elevator back. He stood there and looked over at her. She cut her eyes back over to him until the door opened, “Give me 20 minutes.”

“Okay.” Nick said as they both walked out of the elevator. Jamie walked on the right side of the wall and Nick walked on left side until finally she stopped at her door, “That’s your room?”

“Yeah.” Jamie said as she looked over at him and back down at the door, unlocking it.

“Okay. I’ll be back in 20 minutes.” Nick said as Jamie walked in her room and slammed the door shut. She leaned up against it and looked around, as she began to cry. She wiped her tears away and looked over at the clock and then leaned her head back looking at the ceiling.

“Heeeello?”

“Let me tell you what. That’s the most stubborn woman I’ve ever seen in my damn life.” Nick said as he paced back and forth in his room. Mike just laughed at him.

“What happened?” Mike asked, trying to stop laughing.

“Uh, damn. We literally got in a damn fight in the elevator. I paused it until she said we could talk and damn did she fight me. Finally she said we would so we’re going to dinner in 20 minutes.” Nick said as he ran his hand over his face, “She’s so damn stubborn.”

“Yeah so are you.” Mike said as Nick rolled his eyes, “Two of a kind.”

“Shut up.” Nick said as he scratched his head, “Damn I got her to talk but fuck I don’t know what to say to her.”

“You fucking moron.” Mike said as Nick looked down and shook his head.

“Hello?”

“Hey.”

“Hey Mike.” Jamie said as she answered her phone, “What’s up?”

“Nick keeps wanting your number.” Mike said as he laughed a little, “He keeps bugging me.”

“You better not give it to him.”

“I won’t.”

“It’s over with him.”

“I know that.”

“I hate him.”

“Yes you do.”

“I still love him.” Jamie said as she put her hand over her eyes.

“I know that too.” Mike said laughing, “It’s only been a few months.”

“I know.” Jamie said as she looked around and Mike continued to laugh.

“And it still hasn’t changed.” Jamie whispered as she walked into the bathroom. She turned the light on and looked at herself in the mirror. Her eye make up was smeared up under her eyes and she looked tired. It was only natural since she hadn’t slept any the night before.

She stood there, staring at herself in the mirror. She didn’t want to go out to eat with Nick but she knew he wouldn’t leave her alone until she did.

“Uhh..” Nick said as he walked back and forth outside her room almost 20 minutes later, “Should I knock or not?” he asked himself out loud as he stopped in front of her door, and began to knock on it when she opened it, “Oh hi.”

“Hey.” Jamie said as she walked out of the door and shut it behind her, “You ready?”

“Um yeah. Where do you want to go?” Nick asked as Jamie looked down, “You pick.”

“I don’t care. “Jamie, “You pick.”

“Great.” Nick said as he smiled, “Pizza Hut.”

“Great.” Jamie said as they started to walk down the hallway.

The whole way down to the first floor, they didn’t say a thing. Nick would keep looking over at Jamie. She would do the same, every few seconds, looking over at him to see that he was looking at her. Then they would both look straight ahead as they walked through the lobby and out front. Nick had a cab waiting for them and they both stepped in and Nick told the driver to go to the nearest Pizza Hut. The driver gave him a weird look but Nick just shrugged his shoulders in response to him.

The driver began driving and Nick looked over at Jamie who cut her eyes over at him at the same exact time. He looked back down, looking at his hands that were in his lap until he finally lifted his head up a little.

“So you heard my song?” Nick asked as he looked over at Jamie. Jamie nodded her head a little and looked over at him, “You like it?”

“It was great.” Jamie said, “Did you write it?”

“Maybe.” Nick said as he smiled a little and glanced out the window on his left, “We haven’t broken up. The group I mean.”

“I heard.”

“Yeah. So how did your meeting go?”

“Good. They bought it.” Jamie said, “They’re going to make a movie out of it.”

“No shit?” Nick asked as he looked over at her, “Really?”

“Yep.” Jamie said, “They asked who did I think would do a good job playing the roles.”

“What roles?” Nick asked as Jamie looked over at him.

“Well I told that I pictured Mandy Moore playing Jessica and that I had pictured Paul Walker playing Noah.” Jamie said as she looked back out the window.

“Jessica and Noah.”

“Jamie and Nick.”

“It’s really about us?” Nick asked as she glanced back over at him.

“Yeah it is.” Jamie said as she looked down at her purse sitting in her lap, “I dedicated it to you. Well I just wrote Nick.”

“You did?”

“Yeah.”

“I dedicated my album to you.” Nick said as Jamie looked back over at him, “I sent in my thank you’s yesterday before I left New York City.”

“Why did you do that?” Jamie asked, looking away.

“Because I still love you.” Nick said as Jamie, kept looking away, glancing out the window as the driver stopped at a stoplight, “Why did you dedicate the script to me?”

“Because it was about us.” Jamie said as she looked over at him, smiling and Nick smiled back at her.
