Chapter Nine

“I’m so glad I’m out of there.” Jamie said as they laid on the bed in Nick’s bedroom, “I couldn’t take it anymore.”

“Yeah I know.” Nick said as he clapped his hands, “Guess what we can do now to take our minds off of it.”

“Uh oh what?” Jamie asked, looking over at Nick.

“Call the guys.” Nick said as he reached over for the phone, putting it on speaker phone, “We’ll get them all on the phone all at the same time.”

“Brian scares me.”

“Oh shut up.” Nick said, calling AJ, waiting for him to answer the phone.

“Sup yo?” AJ asked, answering the phone. Jamie shook her head, realizing some things never changed, “Who is it?”

“Yo, it’s me.” Nick said, “Um can you call Kevin and get him on the line with us? Then get him to call Rok and get him on and you know how we do when we do business meetings on the phone.”

“Yeah, what did you do now?”

“Nothing man, just do it.”

“Alright, hold on bro.” AJ said as he put him on hold and Nick looked up at Jamie smiling.

“I’m scared.” Jamie said as Nick shook his head, “Kevin is going to flilp.”

“That vein in Kevin’s forehead man, it’s gonna explode.” Nick said pointing to his head as Jamie laughed, leaning over to kiss him, “Hmm I love those kisses.”

“Yeah I know you do.” Jamie said as they leaned in to kiss again when the line came back on.

“Alright Carter, we’re all here.” AJ said as Nick and Jamie stopped kissing and looked back down at the phone.

“What’s up little bro?” Kevin asked as Jamie put her hand over her mouth, trying to stop laughing.

“Yeah, what’s the emergency?” Brian asked.

“What’s the problem?” Howie asked, sounding concerned.

“Um well.” Nick said as he started to laugh, “Remember when Jamie and I broke up?”

“Man she was hot.” AJ whispered as Jamie’s eyes popped out of her head and Nick looked up at her.

“I still think it was stupid of you to break up with her.” Kevin said, “I always liked her.

“Me too.” Brian and Howie said at the same time.

“Well, the reason we broke up is because she got pregnant and I tried to force her to have an abortion and well -”

“Nick Carter!” Brian yelled as he started to say something and Nick interrupted him.

“And well I thought she did, but she didn’t. Well um, anyway, to make a long story short, we ran into each other a month ago and well we’re back together and we’re getting married.” Nick said, “She’s here right now with me listening.”

“Whoa.” AJ said as he started to stutter a little, “I - I - I mean whoa.”

“You have a kid?” Brian asked, “Hey Jamie.”

“Hey.” Jamie said as she put her hands over her face, “Yeah, it’s a little boy. His name is Dylan. He’ll be 2 next month.”

“Well well well Carter.” Kevin said, whispering a little. Nick put his hands over his face waiting for Kevin to start yelling at him, “I’m happy for you.”

“Huh?” Jamie and Nick asked at the same time as they looked at each other.

“I said I’m happy for ya.” Kevin said.

“Me too man. I always liked Jamie too. Jamie don’t pay attention to what I said before. I’m getting married too.” AJ said as Jamie looked around.

“AJ McLean is getting married?!?” Jamie yelled as Nick cracked up laughing.

“I’m happy for you too!” Brian said, “Damn, this is a surprised.”

“D? Where ya at D?” AJ asked, “Say something.”

“Nicky! How could you go around and get someone pregnant and now run off and get married? Have you lost your mind?!?” Howie yelled into the phone as Nick looked around.

“Whoa D’s getting mad.” Kevin said as he started to laugh.

“Dude, hello, it’s not like I just met her. I’ve known her for fucking ever.” Nick said, “And yo, like I want to marry her. I wanted to back in 2000 but we broke up instead.”

“He’s just mad because he’s the only non-married Backstreet Boy now.” Brian said as he started to laugh.

“No, I’m not mad because of that. I know you love her, just like I’m in shock. My poor heart can’t take it.” Howie said as AJ busted out laughing at him.

“Well I’m glad you all took it really good.” Nick said as he started to laugh.

“When’s the wedding?” Brian asked as Nick looked at Jamie and she smiled.

“December 2nd, 2003. Next year on our anniversary.” Nick said, “We’re not gonna rush it.”

“Good deal.” Kevin said as Brian started talking to Nick about how they were both going to have sons now. Kevin began telling Brian to shut up about the kid while Howie and AJ just sat there quietly.

“Nick, I’m back!” Jamie yelled a little bit later as she walked into the front door, holding Dylan and a few bags. Nick ran down the stairs and walked over, taking the bags from her.

“What’s this?” Nick asked, looking down in the bags to see a few toys and some clothes.

“Some of Dylan’s stuff. I was just going to bring here for the night.” Jamie said as Nick took a little basketball out of one of the bags.

“Oh sweet a basketball. Damn reminds me of Rok saying how our kids were going to play basketball together.” Nick said as he started to laugh and Dylan reached over, trying to take it from him, “Alright little man.”, he said as he sat the bags down the floor and took Dylan from Jamie, “Come on, we’ll go play basketball.”

“How?” Jamie asked as she picked the bags back up and watched Nick as they walked out her view, “Nick where are you going?!?”

Outside for a minute!

“Okay!” Jamie yelled as she walked into the living room, setting down the bag of toys. She looked at the other bag of a few of his clothes, and walked out of the living room and up the staircase, going to Nick’s bedroom. She walked in the double doors and sat the bag down beside hers. She crossed her arms and walked over to one of the big windows slowly.

Jamie looked down to see Nick standing at the basketball goal, holding Dylan and trying to get him to put the basketball in the goal. She smiled and then yawned, walking away from the window, over to the bed and crawling up on it. She layed back, resting her head on the pillows and looked at the ceiling, realizing how her life had changed in the past 72 hours. She went from living on her own, still in love with a guy that she ruined things with, to loosing her sister and husband in a car crash, becoming a mother again, and getting engaged.

Then she started to feel a little sick to her stomach. She sat up for a minute, holding her stomach until the queasiness went away and she layed back down, realizing it was from the overwhelming ness of it all. Finally she closed her eyes smiling, realizing that no matter how overwhelming it all was, she was happy.

“Dirty… Filthy… Nasty… too dirty to clean my act up.” Nick sung as he walked into his bedroom a little bit later to see Jamie asleep on his bed. He stopped singing and walked up to the bed, crawling on it and hovered over her until she blinked her eyes and looked up at him.

“Fall asleep?” Nick whispered as Jamie nodded her head slowly, “Dylan did too. We were downstairs and he just fell asleep, so I took him in the other bedroom.”

“Okay.” Jamie whispered back to him, “Have fun?”

“Oh yeah. He’s going to kick Brian’s kid’s ass at basketball.” Nick said as Jamie started to laugh a little, “I’m serious.”

“I bet.” Jamie said as she wrapped her arms around his neck, “I’m gonna miss you when you leave tomorrow.”

“Yeah I’m gonna miss you too. But I’ll be home in a few days again, I promise.”

“I know.” Jamie said, “Then you leave again.”

“Ugh yeah. Don’t you get a vacation?”

“You know, I never did take one this year and I usually have two different weeks vacation.” Jamie said as Nick raised his eyebrow at her, “I might have to look into that.”

“Yes you will.” Nick said as he leaned over to kiss her slowly, “I got a feeling my phone bill is going to go sky high.”

“From what?”

“Calling you all of the time.”

“Well it’s a 800 number at work.”

“Oh lucky me.” Nick said as Jamie started to giggle while smiling at him, “You happy?”

“Yes, extremely. You?”

“Me too. Did you like the CD?”

“I loved it.”

“What was your favorite song?”

“Hmm I loved all of them, but I really liked ‘I Got You’.”

“You did?”

“Yes.” Jamie said as Nick looked around and then back at her.

“It’s funny how life can take new meaning, you came and changed what I believe in…..” Nick sung to her lightly as Jamie closed her eyes and wanted to laugh, “The world on the outside’s trying to pull me in….”

“Nick -”

“But they can’t touch me…. Cause…. I’ve…. Got ….. you……..”

“You’re silly.” Jamie said, leaning up to give him a little kiss, “I don’t ever want us to be apart again, like we were before.”

“We won’t, you know why?”

“Because I got you?”

“No.” Nick said as he started to laugh, “Because I love you.”

“I love you too.” Jamie said as he leaned down to kiss her again and they both started to laugh.
