Chapter 2

Chapter Two

“God, you guys don’t have any pop or rock stations around here?” Nick asked as him and Daisy out of her car and he looked up to see a white house, “This is where you live?”

“Yeah, my mom is away this week.” Daisy said as she put her backpack over his shoulder, “Then next week we’re going to Nashville.”

“Uh, how old are you?” Nick asked, looking at her backpack with schoolbooks in it.

“I’m turning 23 tomorrow.” Daisy said as she laughed, “What? Think I’m illegal. How old are you?”

“23.” Nick said as Daisy unlocked the front door and looked back at Nick, “Oh right.”, he said as he walked in and took his jacket off.

“My computer is up in my room. It’s the first door on the right and just turn it on and then click the internet icon to log online.” Daisy said, “I’ve got to go do something.”

“You are really trusting aren’t you?” Nick asked, looking at her as she looked back at him.

“Well you don’t seem like a mass murder. What? Are you going to steal my lip gloss? It’s not your color and are you going to steal my car? It wouldn’t make it to Atlanta or Tampa.” Daisy said as Nick laughed, “Go up and use it. I’ll be up in a minute.”

“Okay.” Nick said as he started to walk up the steps slowly, looking at the pictures on the wall until he made it upstairs. He turned to his right and saw the first door, with two big daisy’s on the door and the word Daisy written in between them. He shook his head a little, opening the door up to see a big white and yellow bedroom. He looked over on her desk to see her computer and walked over and hit the power button to turn it on.

“Nice computer.” Nick thought as he looked up and around the room to see a poster of Garth Brooks above her bed. He laughed considering all she played on the way to her house was country. He looked up above her desk to see a picture of her and Faith Hill that had to be taken years ago because Faith looked nothing like she did now and Daisy looked a lot younger.

Finally he looked over to see that the computer had booted and he sat down in her chair, clicking on the internet icon and listened as the computer logged online. He sat there looking around to see a picture of Daisy, with her long dark hair pulled up in a ponytail on top of her head and a guy with dark blonde hair with his arms around her.

“Must be her boyfriend. Great. I’ll get my ass kicked now.” Nick thought as he clicked on a internet explorer window and logged into his email, “God I hope Brian or Kevin checks their mail. Only two emails I can remember.” He thought as he typed out their addresses and went down to type the message, “I need the number here.” He thought as he reached over, picking up Daisy’s phone to see the number written on it and typed it out in the email, telling them to call the number as soon as they checked their mail.

“Get it all done?” Daisy asked as she walked in and Nick hit the send button.

“Yes I did.” Nick said as he smiled, “Nice computer.”

“Thanks. It’s my baby. It’s sad when you have a better computer than car.” Daisy said as she put her hands in the back pocket of her jeans.

“That your boyfriend?” Nick asked, pointing to the picture that he was just looking at a few minutes earlier.

“My brother. He’s a year older than me and he’s in the army.” Daisy said as she looked at Nick, “You don’t have anymore clothes do you?”

“No.” Nick said as he looked over at her, “I was gonna buy some but considering I didn’t see anywhere to buy any…”

“Well, you’re my brother’s size. You can wear some of his tonight and I can take you to the mall tomorrow or something.” Daisy said as Nick looked back at the computer.

“Why are you being nice to me?” Nick asked as he looked back over at her.

“I feel bad for almost killing you today.” Daisy said, “I know I’m a shitty driver but almost killing someone is like really bad.”

“You listen to just country?”

“Only country. I hate any other type. I don’t know a thing about it.”

“Don’t like ‘N Sync?”

“Those New Kids On The Block wanna be’s? I don’t know anything about any of that stuff. I’m not into it.” Daisy said, “Are you?”

“Not really.” Nick said as he stood up and put his hands in his pockets, “So where’s the nearest hotel?”

“About 20 miles away.” Daisy said as she shrugged her shoulders, “You can stay here. There was this freaky guy following me around town today so I don’t really want to be here alone.”

“Freaky guy?”

“Some weird nerd that’s in love with me.” Daisy said, “Don’t ask.”

“So, well okay, I guess that works. I gave my friend your phone number that was on your phone to call when he got the email.” Nick said as Daisy smiled.

“So see.” Daisy said, “Maybe your friend will call tonight.”

“Maybe.” Nick said as he looked back at the computer.

“Well, I hate to be rude. But you stink, so like I’ll go get you some clothes to put on so you can take a shower.” Daisy said as she turned around and walked out, leaving Nick sitting there with a ‘what the fuck’ look.

“Stink?” Nick asked as he raised his arm and sniffed, “Guess I do smell a little.”, he thought as he stood up and followed her into her brother’s bedroom where she handed him a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, “Thank ya.”

“Okay the shower is right over there across the hall and I’ll go cook.” Daisy said as she smiled, walking out of the bedroom as Nick watched her and then smiled.

Nick walked out of the bathroom a little bit later, looking down at the Alan Jackson t-shirt that he had on and jeans. He shook his head thinking to himself that if anybody saw him right now besides this Daisy girl that they would seriously laugh his ass off. He walked down the stairs, running his fingers through his hair and began to hear some music playing. He reached the bottom of the stairs to see the TV on CMT and, consequently enough, Alan Jackson, who’s t-shirt he was wearing, video was playing.

He started to smile a little as he turned the corner and walked through the living room and dining room to see Daisy standing there in the kitchen, singing along to the song, with her back to him while cooking.

“I’m finished.” Nick said as Daisy jumped, and turned around to look at him.

“Oh okay.” Daisy said as she smiled, “Do you like spagetti?”

“Yeah.”

“It’s the easiest thing to cook and there’s like hardly any food here.”

“It’s fine.” Nick said as he walked into the kitchen more and leaned up against the counter, watching her, “So, where’s your parents at?”

“My dad’s dead and my mom is out of town taking care of my aunt who had surgery.” Daisy said, “When she comes back next week, we’re going to Nashville for a few days.”

“Why are you going there?” Nick asked as he looked down at his fingernails and cut his eyes back up at her.

“To check out the dorm rooms because I’m transferring to school there.” Daisy said, “So do you go to school?”

“Nah.” Nick said softly as he laughed a little, “I want to, but, it’s not for me.”

“Then what do you do?” Daisy asked as she turned around and looked at him.

“I kinda go from place to place.” Nick said as he shrugged his shoulders, “I travel a lot.”

“You’re family must be wealthy if you do that.”

“Kinda, I guess you could say.”

“Must be nice.” Daisy said as she started to laugh, “I worked for a year to save up to get my car. Then I was late for work today and they fired me.”

“That sucks.” Nick said as he shook his head, “What did you do?”

“Waitress. I always got good tips though.” Daisy said as stood there, stirring the noodles in the pot, “So, you always go around, riding with truck drivers?”

“Nope.”

“Then why this time?”

“I left my usual ride and was trying to get back home.” Nick said as he started to laugh, and walked over to the other side of the kitchen, leaning up against the counter next to the stove, looking at Daisy, “So what are you studying in college?”

“Journalism. I write for our local paper.” Daisy said as she looked over at him, “So would your girlfriend like you in some strange girls house?”

“Well you’re strange alright -”

“Hey!”

“I’m joking. Relax.” Nick said as he laughed, “I don’t have a girlfriend. So, why do people call you Daisy?”

“My dad used to call me that.”

“What’s your real name?”

“I think dinner’s done.” Daisy said as Nick rolled his eyes at her, “And I’m not telling you. You haven’t told me what you do exactly.

“Fair enough.” Nick said as he laughed while she walked over, getting two plates so that they could eat dinner.
