Chapter 13
Chapter 13
“You look just like your mama.” said Nick as he smiled.
“That’s what my grandpa says.” said Megan.
“Really?” asked Nick.
“Uh huh..” said Megan as she got up on the sofa, sitting beside him and looked at him.
“So you like Aaron?” asked Nick as Megan nodded her head a little.
“I like his basketball and candy song.” said Megan as Samantha sat down at the bottom of the stairs watching them, “Do you like Britney?”
“Spears?” asked Nick as Megan nodded her head yes, “Yeah, she’s a nice girl. Do you like her?”
“She’s my favorite singer.” said Megan as Nick started to laugh.
“You’ve got good taste.” said Nick.
“So does Jello, the red kind.” said Megan as Nick looked over at Samantha who was holding her head down.
“You still like Jello?” asked Nick.
“Yes..” said Megan, “Do you?”
“Yep, maybe we can get some… I think I owe you some anyway…” as he looked over at Samantha again who looked up at him.
“You do?” asked Megan, “Why?”
“Well the first time you walked, you walked to me and I told you that if you did that we would get some Jello and I never had a chance.” said Nick.
“Mommy, can I have some Jello for breakfast?” asked Megan as Samantha looked up wiping tears away.
“Sure.” said Samantha as Megan looked back at Nick.
“You want some Jello?” asked Megan.
“Yeah, you want some?” asked Nick as Megan nodded her head.
“Umm there’s a store right down the road…” said Samantha as Nick smiled.
“Can she go with me?” asked Nick.
“Yeah.. take my car, the carseat is in there, she has to wear it until she’s 3.” said Samantha as she stood up, walked over and handed her car keys to Nick.
“Okay.” said Nick, “You ready Megan?”
“Bye Mommy.” said Megan.
“Bye baby.” said Samantha.
“We won’t be gone too long.” said Nick as he smiled as him and Megan walked out the door.
Samantha stood there, crying lightly when she bursted into tears. She couldn’t stop crying, not after seeing Nick and Megan together like that. They took to each other so fast just like it was when Megan was a baby.
She sat back down at the bottom of the steps, crying and shaking when she started to finally calm down a little and she looked around.
“There’s no way I can let him slip away from me now, there’s no way… ” she whispered and stood up, “I’ve gotta go finish getting ready, I’m getting him back…”
“She’s so lucky… she’s a star but she cries cries cries.. in her lonely heart…” Nick and Megan sung as they were pulling back in the driveway.
“You know what Megan, you’re a pretty good singer. You’re really smart.” said Nick.
“That’s what my mommy says.” said Megan as Nick cut the car off.
“Alright…” said Nick as he got out of the car and opened the back door, taking Megan out of her carseat, “Let’s get these bags and take them in okay.”
“Where’s my jello?” asked Megan.
“Uhh here they go in this bag you tote that.” said Nick as he shut and locked the door, took Megan’s hand and walked back up to the door. Nick took the keys and unlocked the front door.
“Mommy we’re home and we got Jello and candy!!” yelled Megan as she ran into the house and into the kitchen.
“About time you’re back, it’s been almost a hour.” said Samantha as she walked downstairs to see Nick’s arms full of bags, “What the hell did you buy?”
“Hell is a bad word mommy.” said Megan as she ran back into the living room.
“Uh Megan saw some stuff and so we got it.” said Nick.
“Oh god there’s no telling then.” said Samantha as she walked up to Nick and looked in one of the bags and looked back up at him.
“Mommy, come help me open my Jello.” said Megan as Samantha looked over at Megan.
“Okay baby.” said Samantha as she walked into the kitchen with Megan and Nick walked in behind them with the bags.
“Mommy, Nick got good stuff to make cake.” said Megan.
“Really?” asked Samantha.
“Will you make us cake?” asked Megan.
“Yes..” said Samantha, “What icing?”
“Brown.” said Megan.
“You know what, she’s so smart. She knows her colors and everything.” said Nick.
“I told you.” said Samantha as she smiled.
“Nick, when you gonna sing?” asked Megan as Nick picked her up and sat her on the kitchen counter.
“You want me to sing you something?” asked Nick.
“Yes please.” said Megan.
“Umm okay what do you want me to sing?” asked Nick.
“The Opps song.” said Megan as Nick looked at Samantha.
“Opps I did it again.” said Samantha who was wanting to laugh.
“Um how about a Backstreet song.. a um what do you call us street boys song?” asked Nick.
“The rain song.” said Megan as Samantha put the cake mix down and walked out of the room.
“You like the rain song?” asked Nick as Megan nodded her head yes.
“But mommy doesn’t like it.” said Megan.
“You know why?” asked Nick.
“Why?” asked Megan.
“Because I wrote it about her.” said Nick.
“You wrote that about my mommy?” asked Megan.
“Yeah, when you were just a baby.” said Nick, “You know something else? We have the same birthday.”
“We do?” asked Megan.
“Yep, January 28th.” said Nick, “So you want me to sing you a little bit of “Rain”?”
“Uh huh.” said Megan as Nick looked around to see if he saw Samantha standing around.
“Okay..” said Nick as he closed his eyes to see if he could gain enough strength to sing.
Samantha sat on the sofa in the living room, crying, and hearing every word that Megan and Nick said when she heard him start to sing.
I wonder how I’ll get along
I wonder where I might belong
Losing your way is easy to do
Wandering around without a clue
If there’s a way I don’t know where
If there’s a why l’m standing here
Losing my mind is easy to do
Where are you…
“You like that?” asked Nick as he stopped singing and Megan started to clap.
“Yes, you are a good singer.” said Megan.
“Is that what you want to be when you grow up?” asked Nick.
“I want to be like Britney.” said Megan as Nick laughed.
“You know, you might someday.” said Nick, “You stay right here okay…”
“Otay.” said Megan as Nick laughed and walked into the living room to see Samantha sitting on the sofa crying.
