Chapter 15

Confession - Nick is a pain in my ass.

Nick is a pain in my ass and I don’t mean physically, just mentally. This morning we woke up and he wanted me to cook for him. He wanted me to cook for him especially when usually Nichole eats her cereal for breakfast and I just have some orange juice or something. Nichole so kindly told him that we didn’t cook for breakfast and that shut him up.

As I walked into work this morning, Sandra was right on my case, wondering about the night before. I told her that Nick and I went to the benefit and that nobody really sparked interest in us, except for some of the guest who were celebrities in their own right. She looked a little disappointed but I was extremely happy with that fact. I didn’t need some media people hounding me in my everyday life just because I’m the mother of a, what did Nick call her last night jokingly… a ‘Backstreet Girl’.

“Savannah,” Sarah said, talking over the phone speaker. “You have a phone call on line seven. He sounds kind of cute.”

I rolled my eyes, picking up the phone and looked back at my monitor. “Nick.. I told you not to call me at work –“

”It’s Austin and is it okay that I call?” he asked as I smiled, almost giggling. “Why did you think it was Nick?”

”Yes, you can call anytime. Nick just annoys me,” I said as I leaned back in my chair. “So what are you going to do tonight?” I twirled a strand of my hair around my finger, almost acting a lovesick teenage girl.

“I have to work. I know, it sucks,” Austin replied as I sighed, “Maybe I could come over afterwards though –“

”Yes.”

”You sound almost desperate,”

“Well I am. I want you to finish what you started the other night –“

”Savannah,” Sandra said as I jumped, looking back at her. “I need to talk to you whenever you’re finished with your conversation.”

”Okay,” I replied, looking back at her as she walked away. “God,” I sighed, hearing Austin laugh. “She almost gave me a heart attack.”

“You sure that you want me to finish it?” Austin asked as I smiled. “I mean, you’ve waited so long so are you sure you want me to be your first?”

“I’m more than sure. I’m positive,” I whispered. I could almost feel him smiling through the phone.

It was a definite turn around as to how my life was just a few weeks ago. Diana had me going on horrible blind dates that only ended up with a free dinner. Oh, and one ended up with the father of my child, but that’s beside the point. Finally she found me someone that I’m compatible with and who likes me for who I am. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy in my life.

I have my daughter who is healthy and smart. I have a great job where I’m basically starting my own magazine. I have great friends and seemingly enough, Nick seems like he’s going to be a great father to Nichole. In the meantime, I get a life and meet the greatest guy who is smart, cute, and loves me.

I don’t think things could get any better.

“Sandra, you wanted to see me?” I asked as I walked into her office a few minutes later. “Sorry about the phone call, it was my, uh boyfriend Austin.”

”It’s fine,” she said laughing as I sat down in a chair in front of her desk. “So what did you need to see me about?”

”Well,” Sandra said as she leaned back in her chair, “You need to go to New York for a few days to sign contracts with the people up there and go over the basis of the magazine. Are you going to be able to do that?”

”Oh yes,” I said, smiling. “It’s no problem at all.”

”What about you daughter?” she asked, looking at me questionably. “Since her father is back in her life, are you going to leave her with him?”

She had a point. I could leave Nichole with Nick and he could stay at my place while I was away. That way Nichole wouldn’t miss any school and she would be in her normal surroundings. That wasn’t a bad idea. It would give Nick some time to see what it takes to actually be a parent. “I’m pretty sure that’s what will happen. He can see what it takes to be a parent full-time.”

”Well as much as I’m confused about that situation, then great,” Sandra said as I smiled even more.

This teen version of Kiss & Tell was actually going to happen. One of my dreams was about to come true and it’s going to be my creation. I couldn’t wait to go to New York to sign that papers and to talk to them about my ideas. It makes me a little nervous, but I’ll get over it.

”Mommy!” Nichole yelled as she walked out of her room that evening. “Mommy!”

”What baby?” I asked, walking around the corner to look at her. “What is it?”

“What time is daddy going to be here?” she asked, putting her hands on top of her head. “I’m ready for him to come over Mommy!”

”Baby, he’s coming, give him time to get here,” I replied. I walked back into the kitchen, staring at a small mirror when the doorbell rung, “See, there he is now!”

”Go open the door!” Nichole yelled as I walked to the door. I looked at her as I unlocked the door to see Nick standing outside. “Daddy!”

”Hey girl!” Nick said as Nichole practically leaped into his arms, “I just saw you this morning? Did you miss me?” I sighed, closing the door behind them. Nichole went on and on about how she missed him and the things she did at school that day.

“Nick, I need to talk to you about something,” I said as I walked into the living room, interrupting their conversation. “I have to go to New York for the magazine thing, sign some contracts up there, so –“

”You want me to take care of Nichole here?” he asked. I looked at Nichole who had a huge smile on her face. She looked so happy that it actually made me feel warm and tingly inside. “I’d be happy to do it.”

”Well yeah, and you can stay here so that she’s with all of her things,” I said as he nodded his head. “So it’s okay?”

”Yeah man, it’s more than okay. It’s great. When are you leaving?”

”The day after tomorrow –“

“Perfect!” Nick exclaimed as he picked Nichole up, putting her in his lap. “We’ll have a great time together.”

“So you’ll be able to take her to school and everything?” I asked, wondering if he was able to handle the job at hand. “I mean and cook her meals and everything for two and a half days?”

”Yeah, and I can take her over to meet the guys. We’ll have a good time.” Nick said as I nodded my head. “Don’t worry about it Savannah, it’ll be great.”

”Okay,” I replied and smiled, looking at Nichole as she began talking to him again.

I walked back into the kitchen, finishing up washing the dishes in the sink and started to think about my daughter. I wondered if she would become affected when Nick left Atlanta for his career. He wouldn’t be here forever. There is no way possible that we would be able to go on tour with him. I wouldn’t even want to do that in the first place. There is no way that she could either. We could go visit every so often, but that’s it.

It will effect her a lot, I’m sure. She’ll be so brokenhearted that I’m not sure if I will be able to see her when he leaves. She’s fallen in love with him practically overnight due to the fact that he’s her “Daddy”. She always wanted a father and now she has one – one that takes up time with her and loves her.

I don’t want that happy little girl to disappear when he leaves.

The name of the magazine, I think, will be either Confessons or Exraordinary. I’m more on the lines of choosing Extraordinary because Confessions would be so cliché since the main magazine is called Kiss & Tell. I’m so anxious to go to New York to tell my ideas. I’ve been sitting here for the past three hours, going over outlines for the plans that I’m going to share with the New York staff when I go there.

Nick has been busy playing games and coloring with Nichole. He even helped her with her homework before I went to give her a bath. Since then, he’s been in her bedroom, reading her a bedtime story. I’m sure it’ll be hard for her to go to sleep tonight since she seems so hyper already.

“Well, she’s asleep,” Nick said, walking out of her room. I sighed, realizing what I had just though was totally wrong. He closed the door lightly and walked over to the sofa where I was. “Are you still working on your magazine outlines?”

”Yeah,” I said, taking my glasses off. “I’m kind of nervous about it. It’s a big deal.”

”Will celebrities be in there?”

“Yeah, of course. It’s a teen version of Kiss & Tell.”

”Well, if you want… you’ve already got your first celeb booked,” Nick said as I looked at him. “Us.. Backstreet Boys. By the time the magazine hits the stands, we’ll be releasing the album and it’ll work out good. That is if you want us, I know the guys would have no problem with that.”

”Really?” I asked, looking at him in shock. “You’d do that for me?”

”Well sure,” Nick said as he leaned down, resting his elbows on the back of the sofa. “We’ll be doing a lot of interviews anyway and hey man, you’re my kid’s mother… I owe it to you. You’ve raised a great little girl in there and let me say that if she was with, you know, the person that gave her up – she wouldn’t be half the little girl she is now. You’re a great mom.”

”Thanks,” I whispered, looking down at my notepad when there was a knock at the door. “That’s probably Austin coming over.”

”Oh, gonna finish your little party?” Nick asked, reaching over for his jacket. “Use protection man unless you want Nichole to have a little brother or sister,” he said, laughing lightly.

“Shut up,” I replied as Nick walked to the door. He opened it up, to see Austin outside. “Hey Austin. My little woman is asleep and your woman is waiting on you.”

”Nice to see you too Nick,” Austin said as Nick walked out laughing. I laughed slightly, tossing my notepad over on the table as Austin shut and locked the door. “Hey, sorry I’m so late.”

“Nah, it’s fine,” I said, as he leaned over to give me a little kiss. “Listen, I wanna talk to you about something.”

“Go for it,” Austin said, leaning back on the sofa, staring into my eyes.

”I’ve got to go to New York for some magazine stuff the day after tomorrow and I really want to be with you tonight but I don’t think it’ll be good to be together then I leave right after for a few days –“

”How long?”

”Two and a half days, could be three if the meetings go over –“

”I’ll go with you,” he said as I stared at him. “I’ll go with you. It’ll give us some time to be together you know when you’re not working. I’ve always wanted to go to the city and see stuff so I can do that while you’re working.”

”But Austin, what about the hospital and school –“

”I can afford to miss a day or two and I’ll just tell them I’m sick or something and that’s why I’m not at school,” he said as he smiled. “What about Nichole? Is she coming?”

”No, Nick’s going to stay here at the apartment with her –“

”So it’ll be just me and you?” he asked. I smiled, nodding my head as he reached over, entwining his fingers with mine. “Great, that way I can plan ahead and make your first time special.”

”It doesn’t have to be all special,” I replied, looking away. “I didn’t save it to be all candle light and roses. I just to be with you.. plain and simple.”

“I’m gonna make it a night you’ll never forget,” he whispered as he leaned over to kiss me lightly on the lips. I smiled against his lips as we began to kiss again and I almost wanted to giggle.

I can’t wait to be with him. I can’t wait to feel him inside of me, making me become the woman that I should be and that I’m ready to be. I can’t wait to wake up next to him the next morning, knowing that I experienced that with him. I can’t wait for any of it.
