Chapter 17
Chapter Seventeen
Elisabeth walked downstairs slowly a little bit later, after taking a shower, and blow drying her hair that she washed. She looked over, to see Nick watching TV and he looked back at her, looking down at what she had on which was a pair of short overalls and a little t-shirt since it was warm that day. He loved when she dressed cute like that.
“They said on the weather that it’s warm today,” Elisabeth said as she walked over to the sofa, and sat down beside him, “But that a cool front is coming down tonight and it’s going to storm and get cold.”
“I don’t watch the weather,” Nick said as Elisabeth smiled at him, “Nice chat with your mom?” Elisabeth groaned in response and Nick laughed. She shook her head lightly, looking down at her hands and began to laugh herself, “She loves you, even if she is annoying as fuck.”
“She said you remind her of my dad,” Elisabeth whispered as she looked at him, “I don’t see it. Sure, you both work yourself to death sometimes, but you do it to make a better life for yourselves and because you love your jobs. But you’re not like him. He doesn’t know how to love anybody really.”
“And I know how to love someone,” Nick said as Elisabeth smiled, blushing a little, “She said you were going shopping this afternoon.”
“Yeah,” Elisabeth said as she looked over at him, resting her elbow on the back of the sofa, “I figure it’d give you time to get our ‘date’ ready and I can find out what she has to tell me and maybe get something to wear tonight too.”
“Oh sexy,” Nick whispered as Elisabeth cracked up laughing. He always knew how to make her laugh even if it was some stupid little comment like that, “But that’s cool, because I want it to be perfect.”
“Great,” Elisabeth said Nick began flipping channels on the TV again. Elisabeth smiled at him and looked back at the TV when suddenly he passed a movie and turned it back.
The Breakfast Club
“Dude, your movie,” Nick said as he started to laugh, “Haven’t seen this in a while.”
“I know,” Elisabeth said as she reached over, grabbing the remote from him, “Let’s watch and order a pizza.”
“Fine with me,” Nick said as Elisabeth turned the TV up, looking over at Nick as he reached for the phone, and the phone book, so that they could call and order a pizza for lunch. That was one thing she loved about him so much. She didn’t have to pretend to be someone else. They could just hang out with each other, and pig out on pizza and watch old cheesy John Hughes 80’s movies like The Breakfast Club or Pretty In Pink. She couldn’t do that with just anybody.
Only Nick.
“And you’re still cute as hell,” Nick said as he flashed her a cheesy grin. Elisabeth leaned over, pretending to give him a kiss on the lips but reached over, kissing him on the cheek when they heard the doorbell, “Oh god,”
“Shh, be nice,” Elisabeth said as she walked over to the door, looking out to see her mother standing there. She unlocked the door and opened it up, to see her mother standing there with a gift bag in her hands, “I’m ready. Let me go and get my jacket.”
“Yes sweetie, it’s cold outside,” Ms. Geller said as Elisabeth started to walk over to the staircase and go up them. Ms. Geller shut the door behind her, putting her sunglasses on top of her head and walked over to Nick, handing him the gift bag, “For your Nickolas.”
The one gift she could give him was to not call him Nickolas.
“For me?” Nick asked in shock as he sat up on the sofa, and took the bag from her. He looked at her suspiciously and then tried to peek in the bag, “It’s not going to bite is it?”
“Of course not. Don’t be silly,” Ms. Geller said as Nick fakely smiled at her and reached in the bag, pulling out a book, “It’s a book.”
“That I have to read?” Nick asked as he dropped the bag and turned the book over, looking at the title.
“Well I know how you don’t particularly care for country music, since you are in a boy band,” she said as Nick wanted to reach over, knocking the hell out of her. He hated it when she called him that, “But if you’re going to be in my daughter’s life, and her work revolves around country music artist, then you should know who she’s talking about if she talks about someone with you.”
“Well thanks,” Nick said a he reached down for the bag when Elisabeth ran downstairs, putting on her jean jacket, “Elisabeth, look. Your mom got me a book,” Elisabeth looked at her mother as if she had a third eye.
“That you have to read?” Elisabeth asked as she looked over at the title of the book and laughed, “That might come in handy.”
“Uh huh,” Nick said, dropping it back down in the gift bag and sat it on the coffee table, “Be back at eight.”
“Okay,” Elisabeth said as she smiled, wrapping her messenger bag around her body, “See you at eight.”
“Nickolas,” Ms. Geller said as she turned around and walked over to the door and opened it up.
“Ms. Geller,” Nick muttered as he saluted and caused Elisabeth to laugh lightly, “Bye babe.”
“Bye,” Elisabeth whispered as she made a weird face and walked out of the apartment, shutting the door behind her. Nick smiled, standing up from the sofa, and rubbed his hands together.
Oh yes, the night had finally arrived.
She wondered what it was that her mother wanted to talk to her about so badly. She figured that it was just another way to get her away from Nick and try to talk her out of getting back with her. Not that it would work. I mean she hadn’t really decided officially that he was her ‘one’ yet but she was very close to making the decision.
“Oh look at that dress there,” Ms. Geller said as she pointed in a department store window, at a short, blue silk dress, “Oh Elisabeth that would look so beautiful on you.” Elisabeth looked at her. It really wasn’t her style because she was so self-conscious and that would show every single curve on her body.
“I know mom, it’s kind of revealing,” Elisabeth whispered as she tilted her head looking at it.
“Elisabeth, you were in Nick’s video in nothing but a bikini and you are talking about being revealing?” Ms. Geller asked as Elisabeth rolled her eyes. Maybe that’s one reason why her mother hated Nick. He had her daughter in a music video frolicking in the ocean in nothing but a small bikini.
“Yeah,” Elisabeth said as she took a deep breath looking at it, “It would be nice to wear for our little date tonight.”
“See,” Ms. Geller said as she took Elisabeth’s size off of the rack, “It would look gorgeous,”
“Mom, what is it you wanted to talk to me about?” Elisabeth asked as her mother held her sunglasses and the dress in her hands, looking at Elisabeth, “What is it? Like are you and Richard getting married?”
“No sweetie, you know what I told you before. I’m never getting married again,” Ms. Geller, said as she held the dress up to Elisabeth’s body, looking at it, “It would bring out the blue in your eyes Elisabeth. Take those brown contacts out.”
She knew her mom was hiding something and was really nervous. If she wasn’t, there was no way in hell that her mother would be trying to get her to buy a sexy little dress for Nick of all people.
“Mom?” Elisabeth asked as she moved the dress away from her, “What is it?” Her mother stood there, staring at her, moving her mouth lightly, not really knowing what to say to her, “Just tell me and we can get it over with and I’ll try on the damn dress.”
“I’m pregnant,” Ms. Geller said as Elisabeth opened her eyes, almost in shock. She put her hands over her mouth because well, she really was in shock. Her mother? Pregnant?, “I’m two months pregnant sweetie.”
“You and Richard are having a baby?” Elisabeth asked, talking about her mother’s boyfriend who she really couldn’t stand. He seemed to treat her mother well but she heard he was nothing but a big whore himself.
“It’s not Richard’s baby,” Ms. Geller said as Elisabeth tilted her head slightly, looking at her mother. Okay, so it wasn’t Richard’s baby. That was slightly relieving since she couldn’t stand the bastard, “It’s your father’s.”
“WHAT?!?!?!” Elisabeth screamed as everybody in the department store looked over at them. Elisabeth stood there really in shock now while her mother crossed her arms, putting her hands over her face in embarrassment, “Mom, you’re pregnant with dad’s baby? Um, did you forget that you’re fucking divorced?”
“Elisabeth Paige Geller, don’t use that language with me,” Ms. Geller said as she walked up to her, taking the dress from her, “No I didn’t forget that we were divorced.” Well obviously she had to forget somewhere along the line, “We got together to discuss your sisters college activities because, well, she’s partying more than she is studying. We had drinks over dinner and one thing lead to another and -”
“Hold it,” Elisabeth said as she held her hands up, pausing her mother. No. No, and no, she did not need to hear about her parents having any kind of sexual activities because no, they did not do that kind of things. She was brought to their family by a stork and she would like to keep that memory that way, “Talk about mistakes earlier, wow”, she said as she started to walk away, holding her mouth open in shock, “Hello, you talk about me having safe sex. You are the one that needs to practice it,” she said as she turned around, looking at her mother, “How do you know it’s not Richards?”
“He was out of town for a week and a half then,” Ms. Geller said as she took a deep breath, “I’m going through menopause, or I was. I didn’t think I could possibly get pregnant. So that’s my news I wanted to tell you. You’re going to have a little brother or sister.”
Elisabeth stood there, crossing her arms in shock. That’s the only way to describe her. She could understand if it was Richard’s kid, but her fathers?
“Come on sweetie. I’m going to give you a make over for your date tonight,” Ms. Geller said as she reached for her daughter’s hand and started to lead her over to the dressing room. Elisabeth couldn’t fight back. She was still in shock over her mother’s news.
Instead, she gave her a make over.
She had her hair styled, her make up done, and bought her that light blue silky dress. She even bought her a nice matching coat to wear since it was cold out. Elisabeth refused to let them do too much to her, because she wanted to be herself, but she did want to look nice. She wanted to make Nick attack her because she looked so good.
Okay, maybe not attack, but still.
She told her mother goodbye, and for her to call the next day when she got home downstairs before she walked into her apartment building. She looked over at the clock in the elevator to see that it was 7:59 p.m. on the dot. She smiled in return, as the elevator doors opened and there she stood, walking out of it with her short, silky sky blue dress with thin straps on, and a matching darker blue jacket that was only buttoned up by one button under her breast. Her hair was straightened, but curled at the same time, in loose curls that flowed down her back with light make up on, because Elisabeth never really wore any.
She sighed, walking up to her apartment door and didn’t know what to do. She looked down at her new shoes, some silver strappy heels, and back up at the door. She didn’t know whether to knock on the door or just open it herself. She looked around for a minute, deciding that she should just open the door herself.
