“Damn Nick’s in a rush to get into the hotel.” AJ said as him, Brian, Kevin, and Howie watched as Nick walked up ahead of them, pushing the button on the elevator.

“Do you blame him?” Brian said as Nick looked back at them.

“I hear you four talking about me.” Nick said as Howie held his hands up.

“I said nothing.” Howie said, “I’m innocent.”

“Yeah, innocent my ass.” Nick said as the elevator opened and he walked in, pushing the button for their floor.

“Where you going tonight?” Kevin asked, “Still pizza?”

“I’m not hungry. I dunno.” Nick said as they all got in and the door closed. Nick stood there watching the numbers, waiting until it reached his floor.

“Get Kelsey to help you work up a appetite.” AJ said as Nick cut his eyes over at him, “Oh you know you want to. Hell you need to.”

“You need to shut up before your face and my fist meet.” Nick said as Brian and Howie cracked up laughing.

“Alright, he’s only joking Nick.” Kevin said as AJ looked at him.

“Joking? Yo, I’m serious.” AJ said as the door opened and Nick walked out of it, going down to his room while the others walked behind them.

“I’ll see ya’ll tomorrow.” Nick said as he opened his door.

“Don’t stay out too late. You know we’ve got to leave here at six in the morning.” Kevin said as Nick rolled his eyes, walking into his room.

“Shit.” Nick thought as he looked around, “What the hell do I change into?”

“I’m not dressing up for his ass.” Kelsey said as she walked out of her room wearing a pair of jeans and a zipped up baby blue hooded jacket, “It’s cold and I’m tired.”

“Oh no, PMS coming?” David asked as Kelsey looked over at him as she rolled her eyes.

“Shut up.” Kelsey said, “I just feel all blah. I’m tired.”

“Then tell him you don’t wanna go out.” Rachel said, “He’ll understand.”

“We leave day after tomorrow. I’m going out.” Kelsey said as she looked in the mirror at her hair that was pulled up in a ponytail, “I look like shit.”

“No you don’t. You look cute.” Rachel said as Kelsey looked back at her when there was a knock at the door, “Oh must be Nick.”

“God.” Kelsey said as she walked over, grabbing her little backpack, “I’m going.”

“Oh we don’t get to see Nick?” David shouted out, “Where the hell is AJ? I better go find him.”

“Nope.” Kelsey said as she opened the door, “I’ll see you guys later.”

“What, no hellos?” Nick asked as Kelsey shut the door and looked at him, “Oh no little black dress tonight?”

“No. I’m cold and tired.” Kelsey said as Nick made a unhappy face, “Don’t do that.”

“Okay, where we going?” Nick asked as Kelsey started walking down the hallway and he looked around and followed her.

“I really don’t care. Just somewhere that we can chill and don’t have to worry about these people here.” Kelsey said as she pushed the button on the elevator to go down.

“Sweet, I can do that.” Nick said, “Have a good day working?”

“Yeah, I’ve got all these ideas in my head for songs. But recording, yeah, I just don’t like the song I’m working on. But I don’t have to worry. It won’t be a single. My label’s making me do it.” Kelsey said as she crossed her arms as the elevator door opened and they walked into it.

“I hate when they do that.” Nick said as he looked over at her and then pressed the button for the lobby.

“Yeah, but like I’ve had these ideas in my head all day and I dunno, like I think I wanna write. You ever get the feeling that you just want to write?” Kelsey asked as she looked over at Nick.

“Yeah, I kinda feel that way tonight too.” Nick said, “Why don’t you work on that song you had you know, um, the personal ad one. I might can help you.”

“You gonna help me write a country song?”

“A good song is a good song. It doesn’t matter if it’s a country song or a rock song -”

“You sound like Brian now.”

“Huh?”

“Nevermind.” Kelsey said as the elevator opened and her and Nick walked out.

“Well come on. Let’s find somewhere to go.” Nick said as he reached over taking her hand and they walked out of the hotel.

“Well.” Rachel thought as she sat there in the living room of the suite, looking around. Kelsey was gone with Nick. David had went out with AJ who was going to show him where this club was and to probably get more information out of him about Kelsey and Nick. Finally Rachel reached over, picking up the phone and dialing a number.

“Hello?”

“Hey Rachel. How are you?”

“Fine. How ya feelin’ Sharon?” Rachel asked as she flipped on the TV.

“Tired. Very tired. I don’t feel good at all.” Sharon said, “How’s Kelsey?”

“Tired, but she went out with Nick.”

“Nick?”

“Yeah, he stayed over last night.” Rachel as she heard Sharon gasp, “No, nothing like that. They fell asleep watching a movie. It won’t be long. We’re leaving day after tomorrow and god only knows when they’ll see each other again so.. one of them will go see the other. Watch.”

“Does she really like him?” Sharon asked.

“That’s easy. Yes.”

“Well maybe she’ll get a nice boyfriend.” Sharon said, “She needs one.”

“Yeah to take her mind off of work once in a while. I told him about you.”

“What?”

“I told him you were sick. How bad it was, so that when it came to that, he’ll be there for her.” Rachel said, “He said he wouldn’t tell her.”

“Good. She’s going to need someone.” Sharon said, “So is he nice?”

“He’s really nice. He likes Kelsey alot. As sad is it is for me to say this, they’re kind of cute together.” Rachel said as she started to laugh, “She was all giddy all day long. She said they kissed alot last night and she has all of these song ideas. I’m like damn sleep with him you might have a hit song.”

“Oh goodness.” Sharon said as she put her hand over her face and shook her head.

“Well.” Nick said as him and Kelsey sat the back booth of a little diner not far from their hotel, “This place good enough?”

“Fine with me.” Kelsey said, “It’s quiet.”

“No Rachel. No AJ. No Kevin. No David.”

“No nobody.” Kelsey said as she smiled a little and sat up in the booth, with her back to the window and her legs propped up in the seat, “So, you like coming to places like this?”

“Anywhere that is quiet.” Nick said as he smiled a little, “So you done any Christmas shopping yet?”

“Hmmm a little. Not much though.” Kelsey said, “Hardly any.”

“Me either.” Nick said, “So you’re staying with your mom for Christmas?”

“Yeah, but I think I might just let her come to Nashville. I hate going home to see all my so-called family. The last time I was there they all got on my nerves.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean.” Nick said as he looked around, “Too bad we won’t see each other for a while.”

“Yeah.” Kelsey said as she looked down, “I mean I’ll be starting to get ready to go on tour through most of January. I’ve never actually been on a real tour before.”

“Yeah that’ll be exciting.” Nick said laughing, “Just don’t lust after Tim McGraw every night.”

“I don’t lust after him.” Kelsey said as she laughed a little, “He’s cute though.”

“I’m cuter.”

“Yes you are.” Kelsey sighed as Nick cracked up laughing and she looked over at him, “What? You are.”

“I know I’m irresistable.” Nick said as Kelsey smiled at him and looked back down at her jeans, playing with the side, “So can I be like a back-up singer or something for you? You need back up dancers?”

“Don’t you have a job?” Kelsey asked as Nick started to laugh.

“Little time off here and there. I get bored.”

“No, I’m not having no back up dancers. I’m not into that stuff. Just me, my band, my two back up singers, myself and sometimes my guitar.”

“Seriously? You’re gonna play the guitar?”

“Yep. I do on stage sometimes.” Kelsey said, “I don’t wanna dance. I can’t dance.”

“Danced fine that night in my room.” Nick said as Kelsey rolled her eyes.

“Well I’m not a dancer.” Kelsey said, “So what, you want a job? I need a boyfriend.”

“I bet you do.” Nick said laughing, “Does this mean I’m hired?”

“Not yet.” Kelsey said as Nick looked around, “I still need to see your application, resume, and refrerences.”

“Damn woman.”

“What? It’s a big position to fill.”

“Yeah, I bet.” Nick said as Kelsey looked at him in shock.

“You’re dirty.” Kelsey said laughing as Nick leaned back in the booth looking over at her.

“Nah, I’m not.” Nick said, “So, where’s this song?”

“What song?” Kelsey asked, looking over at him.

“This personal ad song.” Nick said as Kelsey reached over, pulling out her little notepad out of her purse, “Sing it.”

“You’re crazy.” Kelsey said as she looked around, “I haven’t got a tune in my head for it yet. Just the lyrics.”

“You write all your own songs?”

“Mostly. I like writing. I always have.”

“Well, let’s write then.” Nick said as he leaned up, putting his hands on the table, “Single White Female. That’s what it should be called.” as Kelsey looked over at him, “Read me the last lyrics.”

“Okay.” Kelsey said as she started to read the lyrics out to him, “I know that every morning, you go thumbing through the personal want ads. You grab the latest copy, a cup of coffee and settle in for a good laugh. I’ve been trying to catch your eye, but I’m so shy. I’m hoping and I’m praying that, today’s edition is gonna catch you’re attention. ‘Cause there’s a single white female, looking for that special lover. To put it in a nutshell, a one woman man who doesn’t no other other.”

“That’s all?”

“Yeah.

“Oh you never can tell, she just might be your dream come true.” Nick said as he looked around and Kelsey looked over at him.

“You scare me.”

“Why?”

“Because I was thinking about something like that.” Kelsey said as she propped her notepad up on her knee and started to write, “A single white female, is looking for a man like you.”

“Thanks I knew I was a man.” Nick said as he leaned back again and Kelsey started to laugh.

“Yeah, I’m a little nervous, I’m not sure if I shoulda put it in writing.” Kelsey said as she wrote it down and Nick took a sip of his drink and looked around, “It might have been a little reckless, a little desperate..”

“But I think I did the right thing.”

“Shut up.”

“Hey, I’m just trying to help ya out.” Nick said laughing.

“Okay.” Kelsey said as she stopped writing and looked over at him, “Let’s finish this song.”

“My pleasure.” Nick said smiling as he leaned back up.

“So.” David said as he looked over at AJ, sitting at the bar. The bartender brought David his beer while handing AJ his coke, “What is it you wanted to know?”

“Bout Kelsey. Carter is really interested in her and I don’t know much.” AJ said as he took a sip of his coke and David looked over at him.

“Nosey much?”

“Nosey is my middle name. Besides James, but that’s beside the point.” AJ said, “So tell me about her.”

“What about her?” David asked.

“Like she had many boyfriends?”

“Since I’ve known her which has been hmm well I knew her before she got her deal. I’ve known Rachel since she’s been in Nashville, but since I’ve known Kelsey, no. No boyfriend.” David said, “I think she had one when she was younger, when she was back in Georgia, but I’m not sure.”

“Hmm, no boyfriend huh?” AJ said as he sat there, moving his hands back and forth against each other, “She a virgin?”

“Huh?”

“I mean if she’s never had a boyfriend -”

“I don’t know. I’ve never known a guy to spend the night with her, except last night, but hell nothing happened there.” David said, “I know she really likes Nick. I can tell.”

“Hmm.” AJ hummed as he took a sip of his drink, “Carter really likes her.”

“I can tell.”

“I haven’t seen him like this in a long time.”

“Never seen Kelsey like this.”

“Well I’ve never seen him this adamant about a girl before.” AJ said as he looked around, “Betcha money that after you guys leave LA, you’ll be having a visitor.”

“You bet too much.”

“I do know that.” AJ said, “But I know.”

“How do you know?”

“Nick told Brian that he was. I over heard them. He’s gonna go see her after Christmas.” AJ said as he took a sip of his coke again and looked over at David.
