Chapter 2
Nick walked out of his hotel room that morning, walking down to Kevin’s room knocking on the door. He stood there waiting. And waiting. Finally he knocked again and didn’t hear anything.
“Kev, you in there?” Nick asked as Kevin opened the door wearing a towel, “Damn that’s NOT the image I wanted to see.”
“Come on in. I’m gonna go in and get dressed.” Kev said as he grabbed his clothes, walking into the bathroom as Nick walked in and sat down in a chair, “What’s up?”
“I think I know the name of the song and chick that Kristin likes.” Nick said as Kevin peeked his head out the door.
“Really?”
“Yeah, I was flipping by last night and I saw this little news segment about her on TV. The song is “Let Me Love You” and -”
“Yeah that’s it.” Kevin said, “What’s her name?”
“Kelsey um damn Baker I think. Yeah. She has a crush on Rok.” Nick said laughing as Kevin walked out with his pants on and putting his t-shirt on.
“Do what?” Kevin asked.
“She’s got a crush on Rok.” Nick said, “I got online to make sure that was the chick last night and I read this fact sheet. Her celebrity crush is Brian Littrell.”
“Oh that’s funny. He’ll love that.” Kevin said laughing, “So this chick’s CD is out?”
“I think so.”
“I’ll tell Kris so she can pick it up.” Kevin said, “How old is this girl? 15, 16?”
“I think she was born the year I was.” Nick said, “Can’t remember.”
“Alright, well thanks Nick.”
“You are very welcome. I’m doing my good deed for today.”
“Why so you can be an ass later?” Kevin asked as Nick laughed at him.
“Ha ha ha.. very funny. No, I’m trying to take a new outlook on life.” Nick said as he did some weird hand motion with his hands, “Get out. See the birds flying around. Smell the roses.”
“What have you been smoking?”
“Not a damn thing.” Nick said laughing, “I’m just talking out of my ass man.”
“I can tell. You should get out. You don’t even go out like you use to. Not since-”
“Blah.”
“Blah.” Kevin said mimiking him, “Seriously though-”
“Seriously I’m fine.” Nick said, “I don’t have to go out to have a good time. The television and I have become marvilious friends.”
“Marvilious darling.” Kevin said in a fake British accent as Nick rolled his eyes, looking over on the coffee table.
“That today’s paper?” Nick asked.
“Yep. Oh my god.”
“What?”
“You’re going to the read the newspaper?” Kevin asked in shock as Nick widened his eyes and looked around.
“Oh my god. I think I might.” Nick said as he stood up, leaning over to pick it up, “Bored. Nothing else to do.”
“We’re going to the arena around two.” Kevin said as Nick looked over at the clock.
“Great.. three hours to kill.” Nick said as he started to walk out the door, “See ya later Kev.” as he walked out the door, unfolding the paper. He walked back down to his room, unlocking the door and walking in, throwing the key on the counter. He walked over, laying down on his bed, unfolding the paper looking at it.
“Kelsey, come on. We need to go.” Rachel yelled as her and Kelsey’s bodyguard, David, were waiting by the door.
“We’re going to be late.” David said as Rachel walked over to Kelsey’s door.
“Kelsey!”
“I’m coming!” Kelsey said as she walked out of her room, “God I want to go back to sleep.”
“Well get yourself to bed earlier. Your light was still on when I went to bed at two.” Rachel said as David laughed and they walked out of the suite.
“I went to bed about 2:30 but I’m still tired.” Kelsey said as she put her sunglasses on as they walked down the hallway, “I couldn’t sleep last night.”
“Why?” Rachel asked.
“I just couldn’t.” Kelsey said as they walked up to the elevator, waiting for it. It opened and they all looked up to see Brian standing there. Kelsey just stood there not saying anything.
“The girl from CMT.” Brian said as Rachel looked from Brian to Kelsey and back at Brian, “Hi, how are you?” as he walked out of the elevator and stuck his hand out to shake hers.
“Hi.” Kelsey said as she shook his hand back, “You know who I am?”
“Actually I don’t, but I recognized you from the video. What’s your name?” Brian asked.
“Kelsey Baker.”
“I’m Brian Littrell.”
“I know.” Kelsey said, “You watch CMT?”
“Sometimes. Great, I know your name now. Kevin’s wife was wondering who you were because she loves your song. I can go tell him now.”
“Kristin likes my song?” Kelsey asked almost in shock.
“Yes she does. I caught Nick watching your video yesterday too.” Brian said as David cleared his throat letting them know they really needed to go.
“Oh man. Well tell them I said hi. I’ve really gotta go now.” Kelsey said as Brian laughed a little.
“I will. Maybe we’ll see ya later.” Brian said smiling, “Nice meeting you.”
“Nice meeting you too.” Kelsey said as they walked into the elevator and Rachel looked over at Kelsey.
“Brian.”
“Littrell.”
“Backdoor Boys.” David muttered as they looked over at him.
“Alright Dave.” Rachel warned as he laughed, “Well look a there. Brian and Kristin are fans I guess. That’s nice to know. Nick too.”
“I just met Brian. Hot damn I’m ok.” Kelsey said as she looked around, “They’re staying on the same floor as us?”
“Howie?” Rachel said as she looked around and Kelsey started to laugh.
“You two are acting like teenies now.” David said as they looked over at him, “I know. Shut up Dave.”
“Thank you.” Rachel said smiling, “Well this is nice to know.”
“That was cool.” Kelsey said smiling a little, “I wasn’t expecting that. And I still don’t want to go to this damn photo shoot.”
“Well your ass must go.” Rachel said as Kesley closed her eyes, leaning against the back of the elevator, sighing.
Knock! Knock!
“Hold on!” Nick said as he hung up the phone, closing the newspaper up. He looked around and hide it under the bed as he walked over, opened the door to see Brian standing outside, “Sup?”
“Guess who I just met.” Brian said while walking in. Nick made a weird face and closed the door as he turned around and walked back over to the bed, sitting down.
“Who?” Nick asked as he turned the TV on.
“Some girl.”
“We meet a lot of those.” Nick said laughing, “You would think about almost 9 years you would notice Rok.”
“Well she’s a singer.” Brian said as Nick shook his head at him and looked back at the TV.
“Did you tell Britney I send my love?” Nick asked sarcastically as Brian laughed.
“No. Didn’t see Britney. I saw the girl that was on TV yesterday. The one that Kristin likes her song.”
“Do what?” Nick asked as he looked over at him, “That Kelsey chick?”
“You know her name now?” Brian asked laughing.
“Well I saw some news thing on her last night on TV. She’s got a crush on ya.” Nick said laughing.
“Really? What did you do? Get online and do research?”
“You know me too well.”
“Figures. Yeah so I met her and this other girl who looked a little older and her bodyguard. They were getting on the elevator here as I was getting off. I guess they’re staying on this floor.” Brian said as he shrugged his shoulders.
“Really.. Interesting.” Nick said as he laughed, “You gonna hook up with her since Leigh ain’t here?”
“Are you out of your damn mind boy?” Brian asked as Nick started cracking up laughing.
“You know the answer.”
“You’re completely out of your damn mind.” Brian said, “So you wanna go out and shoot some hoops or something before we have to go to the arena?”
“Yeah, go on to your room. I’ll change and be right down.” Nick said as Brian laughed.
“Alright. See ya in a bit.” Brian said as he walked over to the door, walking out and shutting it back. Nick sat there on the bed, leaning back a little, laughing to himself. He leaned over, picking the newspaper out from under the bed to see the personal ad that he had circled.
“I’m such a moron.” he said as he threw it back under the bed, getting up and walking into the bathroom.
“I’m such a moron.” Kelsey said as she sat there in a chair with her hair all stuck up on top of her head wearing a big fluffy skirt.
“Tell us something we don’t know.” Rachel said as she sat there looking over some papers while Kesley looked over at her.
“Thanks for your support Rach.”
“Anytime.”
“I am stupid.” Kelsey said as she looked at her nails, “I mean, really I am. I made straight A’s in high school, yet I’m so stupid when it comes to comman sense things. Like today, I met Brian and I didn’t even tell him what a big Backstreet Boys fan I was. I was just like.. blank.”
“I’m sure since you knew Kevin’s wife’s name is Kristin that he figured you were a fan. Not that you don’t keep it a secret. You’ve told everybody he’s your celebrity crush although half the people who listen to your music doesn’t know who Brian Littrell is from a hole in the wall.” Rachel said as David laughed and Kelsey looked back and forth, between them.
“Did I really act dense today when I met him?” Kelsey asked, “Maybe this is why I don’t have a boyfriend. I’m too nervous around cute guys.”
“Not nervous around me.” David said as both Rachel and Kelsey started to laugh, “What?”
“Nothing.” Rachel said laughing as she looked over at Kelsey, “What? You want a boyfriend now?”
“No.” Kesley said as she looked down at the skirt she had on, “Just well see this is what brings me back to being a moron.”
“Uh huh. What did you do?” Rachel asked as Kelsey cut her eyes up at her and looked back.
“It wasn’t me. It was evil imaginary sidekick.”
“You didn’t sneak out of the room last night did you?” Rachel asked as Kelsey shook her head no, “Okay then, what did you do?”
“Like I was reading the newspaper.” Kelsey said as she looked up at both Rachel and David.
“Well this is something new. Her reading the newspaper.” David said as Rachel laughed.
“Well I was reading the personal ads-”
“And?” Rachel asked as Kelsey looked back down at her skirt, rubbing it, trying to get the wrinkles out, “Kel, what did you do?”
“I placed a personal ad.” Kelsey said as she looked up at them. They busted out laughing as Kelsey looked from David over to Rachel, “What?”
“That was a good joke.” Rachel said, wiping tears away from her eyes. Kelsey sat there looking at them until they finally looked over at her while they stopped laughing, “Kelsey.. why aren’t you laughing?”
“I.. I’m not joking.” Kelsey said, “I really placed a personal ad.”
“Kelsey!”
“Whaaaat?!?”
“Are you out of your mind?” Rachel asked as Kelsey rolled her eyes, looking over at David who was laughing.
“Nobody knows it’s me.” Kelsey said, “It’s like me going online posting on Backstreet message boards. Nobody knows who I am. So what’s the big deal?”
“You’re not going to meet anybody like that.” Rachel said.
“I’m not going to meet anybody the way I’m going now either.” Kelsey said as she crossed her arms and legs at the same time, “So I did it. I mean, what the hell?”
“What the hell?” Rachel asked as she shook her head, “You’ll get to talking to some freak and then they find out that you’re famous and -”
“And nothing. I never said I was going to meet anybody like that. I just did it for the hell of it. You’re married, hell let me live a little.” Kelsey said as Rachel started cracking up, laughing.
“She wants to live a little David, do you hear this? You may actually get to go to clubs soon while working and get you some ass.” Rachel said as David laughed.
“Sweet. I know good clubs.” David said as Kelsey shook her head, ignoring them.
“You suck at basketball.” Brian said as they walked out of the elevator later that afternoon after playing a game of basketball on the hotel’s court.
“I do not.” Nick said as he grabbed the basketball from Brian, “I’m damn tired though.”
“Thirty minutes before we head to the arena.”
“Fuck - better go shower and get ready to go.” Nick said, “Damn, how many more dates do we have on this tour?” Nick asked.
“Two more including tonight.” Brian said as Nick stopped in the middle of the hallway and looked up at the cieling.
“Thank you God.” Nick said as Brian stopped and looked back at him.
“Are you praying?”
“By God I think I am.” Nick said, “You don’t know. I’m ready for this tour to be over.”
“Not like you’re going home to anybody.” Brian said laughing as Nick growled at him.
“I know that.” Nick said as he tossed the ball over to Brian as he unlocked his door, “I’ll see ya in a bit.”
“Alright.” Brian said as Nick walked into his hotel room, taking off his sweaty t-shirt, tossing it on the floor. He walked over to the bed, kicking off his shoes while reaching under it for the newspaper to see the ad that he had circled.
“Hmm..” Nick thought as he reached over for the phone, dialing the number.
