Chapter 31

Chapter Thirty – One - Love Will Make You Stop

Nick walked back down he hallway, with his hands in his pockets, looking down at the ground. He saw a bellboy walk by and he didn’t even lift his head to look at him. He was feeling like complete shit. He knew he had did something wrong and he didn’t know if he could even walk back into that room and face her.

Then he reached their room and stopped, looking at the door. He didn’t want to move his hands out of his pockets to knock on it. He didn’t know if he could look into her eyes and just lie to her again when suddenly the door opened.

”Nick, great timing,” Faith said as Nick looked up at her and then at Gracie as she gave him evil eyes, “we were just leaving,”

”I guess I do have good timing,” he said as Faith walked by him and he looked into the hotel room and walked closer into the doorway. He closed his eyes, taking a few more steps in and opened them to see Caraline sitting on the bed, on her knees, smiling at him, “Hey baby,”

”Hey, you come back just in time,” Caraline said as she smiled, motioning for him to walk closer. He kicked the door shut, without even looking back and started to walk closer to the bed, looking down at the ground, “I have some news,”

”Hmm?” Nick hummed as he kicked his shoes off and sat down on the edge of the bed, with his back to her.

”I know when we can get married,” Caraline whispered as she crawled up behind him, wrapping her arms around his neck, kissing him lightly on the cheek. Nick just closed his eyes in return. “Don’t worry I didn’t tell Faith but she told me about something, and it fits perfectly,”

”Sweet,” Nick said as he smiled a little, leaning over propping his elbows on his knees.

”Uh oh, have you changed your mind?” Caraline asked as she backed away from him and Nick turned around, looking her in the eyes.

”No, trust me, I haven’t baby. I don’t feel too good right now,” Nick said as Caraline smiled at him, “I just feel so sick at my stomach like I want to vomit or something.” Caraline reached up, feeling his forehead with the back of her hand and then looked him in the eyes.

”You feel like you might have a fever,” Caraline whispered as she backed off of the bed, “Why don’t you get up there and lay down?”

”On one condition,” Nick said as he looked over at her, “If you lay down with me,”

”I will,” Caraline said as Nick crawled up on the bed, taking his t-shirt off and throwing it onto the floor. Caraline crawled back up there, laying down on her side and faced him. He reached over, taking her hand and held it in his, looking her in the eyes, “Want me to call and get you some medicine?”

”Nah, I’ll be fine,” Nick said as Caraline smiled at him again, “I love you so much,”

”I love you too.”

”I can’t wait until I marry you,”

”Me either,” Caraline whispered as Nick smiled at her and she smiled back, “But don’t you think that maybe we’re rushing it just a little bit?”

”Some might think that,” Nick whispered as he moved his hand up, pushing the hair out of her face, “But I really don’t think so baby. I’ve known people to know each other less time then we have and have gotten married,”

”Pam and Tommy?”

”Knew each other two days yo, or three… I can’t remember,”

”And look, they hate each other now, but they’ve still got to talk to one another because of the kids,” Caraline said as Nick looked back down at her hand, “I’m sure he cheated on her like hell, I mean god, it’s Tommy Lee.” Nick just stared back up at her, looking her in the eyes.

”Probably,” Nick said as he closed his eyes, trying not to look at her.

”I wouldn’t let someone do that to me, that’s why I’m glad that you’ve changed,” Caraline whispered as she leaned over, kissing him on the cheek, before kissing him lightly on the lips, “I didn’t think that I could ever really fall in love with you, but I was wrong,”

”You were,” Nick whispered, opening his eyes and looking back at her, “I’m glad you fell in love with me. You have no idea how glad I am,”

”I’m glad too,” Caraline whispered as she leaned up, kissing him softly on the lips again. They began to kiss each other more intensely until Caraline backed away, looking at him, “You still feel bad?”

”You’re making me feel better baby,” Nick whispered as he pushed her over a little, hovering over her and began to kiss her lips slowly, taking her mouth into his. He sucked on her tongue and her lips until he moved his lips down to her neck, sucking on it slowly. He would bite at it gently, causing her to laugh and he moved back up to her lips, looking into her eyes and smiled, “I just want you to know something,”

”What?” Caraline whispered, pushing his hair off of his forehead so that she could look into his eyes.

”No matter what happens, today or twenty years from now – I want you to remember that I love you no matter what,” Nick whispered as Caraline smiled at him.

”Tell me what you love,” Caraline whispered back to him as she leaned up, kissing his bottom lip gently and then backed away, resting her head on the pillow.

”I love your smile and I love your laugh. I love the way you give me little kisses like you just gave me and I love the way you’re so sleepy when you first wake up, that you refuse to open your eyes. I love the way you always snuggle up to me when you go to sleep, no matter if you fall asleep on the very opposite side of the bed, you always end up half way on top of me,” Nick said as Caraline stared back at him. “I love the way you refuse to give up your career to follow me around and I love the way you were so teasing me when we first started going out. I love the way you always make me take a bath before we get in bed and I love the way you sound when you answer the phone and –“

”Okay,” Caraline said as she put her fingertip over his lips, smiling, “I think that’s enough,”

”I could go on for days,” Nick whispered against her fingertip as he kissed it gently, before leaning over to kiss her softly on the lips, “I could keep doing this for days too,”

”Like at the cabin?” Caraline asked as Nick nodded his head as he leaned down to kiss her again when someone knocked on the door.

Caraline, I need to talk to you!

”That’s Faith, damn,” Caraline whispered as she leaned up to kiss Nick again, “We were talking about something she has to do soon so she probably found out some news about it. I’ve got to go see,”

”Okay I’ll just lay here and take that nap,” Nick whispered as he moved off of her and she smiled, leaning over to kiss him on the cheek.

”Yeah you better rest up,” Caraline whispered as she bite down on her bottom lip, walking over to the door, “I’ll be back in a little bit,” she said as she opened the door and walked out of it.

Nick laid there smiling and looked up at the ceiling until it hit him. He did cheat on her. He had cheated on her twice already. He put his hands over his face, rubbing his eyes, trying not to think about it but time she left the room it all came back to him. He was so happy with her he didn’t even think about what he had done. He couldn’t think about anything else but her.

He moved his hands, staring at the ceiling again. That was it. He needed her with him at all times, but how would that work? They couldn’t be together at all times. There was no way that would work and besides, he shouldn’t need her with him at all times. He shouldn’t even look at another girl, but really he doesn’t look at another girl. They look at him. Why?

He’s famous.

He sat up on the bed, swallowing hard and looked down at his hands. He moved his eyes up, seeing that his hair was in his face and blew up, trying to move it but it wouldn’t move. Maybe Caraline was right. He did need a haircut. Caraline was right about a lot of things though and not just the haircut and he knew it. All of her thoughts about him before they got together were true. Another girl flirts with him, showing that she’s interested in a little ‘something’ and he totally forgets about her for those quick few minutes.

Maybe if he was married and wasn’t famous anymore, nobody would want him – nobody but Caraline that is. That’s how he wanted it.

That’s what he needed.

He reached down in his pocket, pulling his cell phone out of it and opened it up, looking at the list of numbers inside. He could call Brian but all Brian would do was tell him was that he was going to fuck up that relationship like everything else in his life. If he wanted a preacher, he’d go to church.

He could call A.J., but then again, he would be married now if it weren’t for the fact that he cheated on his fiancée. He wasn’t a good person to call. The same went for his father too.

He could call Howie, but the word ‘commitment’ made him run a hundred miles away from a dictionary.

He sighed, hitting a button on his phone and put it up to his ear as he closed his eyes, waiting for someone to answer. Finally he heard the slow, Southern twang of a voice, answering and he smiled, wondering why he always seemed to talk to people with Southern accents all of the time –

”Hello?!?”

”Hey, Kev, it’s me,” Nick said as Kevin snickered a little, “What’s up man?”

”I just got back from rehearsal from the play. What about you? How are things with that new girlfriend of yours? What’s her name? The one you took to the cabin?” Kevin asked as Nick smiled, looking at his hand.

”Caraline and things are great. They’re going pretty damn good I would say,”

”Oh really, how good?”

”I’m in love with her,” Nick said as he smiled again, “But dude I have to talk to you about something,” he said as he climbed off of the bed and started to walk over to the window.

”Well damn, you’re in love with her?” Kevin asked as Nick nodded his head, “And stop nodding your head. I can’t you see you. What’s the problem?”

”I can’t control myself,”

”Meaning uh, what?”

”With other girls,” Nick muttered as he pushed the curtains back, looking down at the street.

”Meaning? What did you do Nick? Did you sleep with someone else or something?” Kevin asked as Nick didn’t say anything, “You did didn’t you?”

”Yes and the thing is, I thought Caraline was with her ex-boyfriend. It’s a long story but I thought she didn’t want to be with me anymore and I flew back to New York and just slept with the first person I saw,” Nick said as he closed his eyes.

”Well, you thought things were over -

”But then today, I kind of let this girl –“

”Oh god,”

”Yeah, in a elevator,”

”Nick!”

”I can’t help it,” Nick said as he banged his head against the glass in the window, “I can’t help it. I can’t stop myself and I know if she finds out she’s going to hate me but I can’t stop myself Kevin, I need you to tell me how to stop,”

”Me, why me?” Kevin asked, with a confused voice.

”You, you’re married,” Nick whispered as he started to sound upset, “You used to be the same way that I am, but you stopped. You got serious with Kristin and you stopped. How did you do it?”

”Nick, you can’t make yourself stop,” Kevin said as Nick closed his eyes, wanting to cry.

”Why not?” Nick asked as he turned around, with his back against the window and looked at the door, across the room, “Why can’t you make yourself?”

”If you love her enough, and you really love her, nobody else will do. It doesn’t matter how horny you are or how fine a girl is. You only want her. That’s how I stopped. I didn’t want anybody but Kris. Nobody lived up to her and they never will.” Kevin said as Nick looked down at the ground, taking a deep breath, “Your love for her will make you stop,”

”Yes my dear?” Caraline asked as she walked out into the hallway to see Faith standing there, “Did you get the dates that we need to go back to New York?”

”No,” Faith said as she crossed her arms, looking at her. “I need to talk to you about Nick for a minute.” ”What is it?” Caraline asked, staring at her. “Is something wrong?” Faith looked at her, not knowing what to say. There was no way she could tell her. “What is it Faith?” ”Someone told me that they saw Nick with another girl today,” Faith replied, reaching down to hold Caraline’s hand. “I don’t want to cause any trouble, but I wasn’t going to let it slip by and you not know.”
