Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Samantha ran downstairs when she heard the doorbell ringing. “Coming”! she shouted, as she opened the front door to see Jake standing there smiling at her.
“Hey you,” she said, as she gave him a peck on the lips and showed him in, “Merry Christmas Eve.”

“Samantha to you baby,” he replied, as he handed her a small wrapped box with a silver bow on top.

“Oh you want to exchange gifts tonight?” she asked, smiling, “I’ll run upstairs and get yours.”

Samantha ran upstairs while Jake sat down on the couch talking to her little brother Ryan about the video game he was playing. As she came back down the stairs, she saw Jake showing Ryan how to play the game, and she stopped and smiled at him. She had definitely fallen for him. Her smile became bigger when she realized that. She sighed, walking down the rest of the stairs into the living room.

“Okay,” she said, as she sat down next to him, “Here you go. You first,” she insisted.

Jake opened his present to find his favorite football jersey and some basketball video game she had heard him say he wanted to buy. He was thrilled.

“Thanks Sammy, I love them. Now you, go on open it,” he said, handing her the small box again.

Samantha untied the bow and unwrapped the box to find a velvet jewelry case. “Jake, you didn’t have to buy me jewelry,” she started, as he hushed her.

“Go on, open it,” he said, to her as she lifted up the top of the case.

Inside was a gold and silver heart-shaped locket.

“Wow Jake, it’s so beautiful,” said Samantha as she stared down at the locket.

“Open up the locket and see what’s inside,” he said.

Samantha opened it to find a small picture of the two of them, as a tear rolled down her cheek. “Oh, I love this Jake, I don’t know what to say,” she said, as she hugged him tightly.

Jake leaned back to give her a kiss. “I… you know you’re my girl,” he said, as she smiled at him and gave him a kiss.

“Well.. you’re my boy then,” she said, as they hugged again and she took the locket out of its box to put it on her necklace.

“Ahem,” they heard Megan say, as she walked into the living room breaking up the moment they were having there.

“Meg, what are you doing here?” Samantha asked, as she and Jake separated on the couch a little.

“Bored,” she replied, “thought I’d come over here since you’ll be at your grandmother’s all day tomorrow. Oh, and I signed for this package for you from the Fed Ex man outside,” she said, as she handed over the package to Samantha.

“What is it? Who is it from?” Jake asked, curiously.

“I’m not sure, maybe Nick?” she said, as Jake rolled his eyes upward.

“Open it,” Megan said, as Samantha ripped open the box.

Inside, she silently read the card that was attached to a small wrapped present.

Dear Samantha,

I wasn’t really sure what to get you, but Howie tells me that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. And here all this time, I thought I was your best friend? Guess I have a lot to learn. Hope you like these. Have a great Christmas, and I’ll see you in a week. I miss you.

Love,

Nick

Samantha closed her eyes, as she closed the card and stuck it in the bottom of the box. She was almost afraid to open up the present and see what was inside.

“Well?” Megan asked, “Are you going to open the present or what?”
