Chapter 38

“What are you doing?” asked Samantha as Nick looked up and shut the desk drawer as she walked on around to the desk.

“Oh nothin’… the guys are gone.” Said Nick as he looked at her and noticed she had changed out of the sexy clothes that she had on before into something more comfortable, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.

“Yeah decided I didn’t need to look slutty..” said Samantha.

“You didn’t look slutty.” Said Nick, “You were.. cute.”

“Oh yeah okay..” said Samantha as she turned around and walked out but turned back around and looked at Nick, “So dinner… have you ate?”

“No.. we were gonna order a pizza but you and D came back.” Said Nick.

“Oh okay, well I’m gonna go cook.” Said Samantha as she smiled and walked out. Nick just stood there confused.

“She’s gonna cook?” asked Nick as he sat there confused and started to laugh and smile at the same time.

Almost a week had passed and Nick was leaving early the next morning to head for Europe so that him and the guys could rehearse for a few days before the tour actually started.

Jake hadn’t been back around the house since that day. Samantha was doing her best to keep him off of her mind, but sometimes it would drift back to him. When it did, Nick was always there to take her mind off of it. That didn’t help much because Nick was falling for her, but he knew that he couldn’t do anything about it right now because of everything going on with the tour and Jake and everything else.

Over
the past week, Nick and Samantha just hung out at his house. One day they drove over to Orlando, taking Megan to Disney World with AJ and Howie. Another day they went out on his boat and spent the day. They just did things that they had always wanted to do because they both knew that they wouldn’t be able to do any of this stuff for a while.

Him and Samantha had grown so much closer than they had before since she’d been staying there with him and she was getting use to the idea of staying there. She was going to be starting back work the next day at the radio station where she was going to be doing some live Djing during the afternoon hours with one of Tampa’s biggest DJ’s. She told Nick not to do anything, but he called someone and told them that they should really give her a listen and that she’d always been a big fan of music, knowing all the songs, performers and everthing else. So after that, she applied and got the position.

While Samantha would be at work, Nick helped her get Megan into one of the nicest daycare’s in Tampa and she would start going the next day while Samantha was at work.

Samantha had also called her parents and told them that she was now staying with Nick at his place and that she and Jake were over with. Her father didn’t like it and believed that Samantha should stay with Jake even after she told him what he did to her, he didn’t believe it.

“Sam!!” yelled Nick as he ran down the stairs holding two of his bags that he would be taking the next morning when he left, throwing them by the door, “Samantha!”

“Yeah?” asked Samantha as she walked in from the kitchen, holding Megan who had chocolate all over her face.

“What the hell are you doing?” asked Nick laughing as he walked over and took Megan from her, “What is your mama feeding you in there, are you playing in dirt or something?”

“No.. we’re making a chocolate cake.” Said Samantha laughing as she licked her fingers that were almost covered in chocolate

“Cake?” asked Nick as his eyes lite up, “Cake, for real, cake… nice. Going away present?”

“No.. I just wanted cake.” Said Samantha as she took Megan from him, “Come on before you get icky icky sticky stuff all over Uncle Nick.”

“Icky Icky?” asked Nick as they walked back into the kitchen, “You sound like Snoop Dogg at the end of that song.”

“Huh? Oh… yeah okay Nick.” Said Samantha as she put Megan back into her highchair and walked over to the sink and washed her hands, “So… what time are you leaving in the morning?”

“Around 5…. A car is coming to pick me up damn… that’s early.” Said Nick.

“Go to sleep earlier I guess.. it’s already 6 o’clock.” Said Samantha.

“Yeah.. you sure you’re gonna be okay here alone, I mean you can come over with us..” said Nick.

“Yeah.. I’ve gotten use to the security system and all and I’m gonna be fine. I promise.” Said Samantha.

“I dunno about you and you’re promises..” said Nick as he smiled.

“I promise this time, me and Jake are over with, and I’m gonna be okay here alone Nick, I promise.” Said Samantha as she got a wet washcloth to go and wipe Megan’s face and hands clean.

“Well good…” said Nick as he looked down and back over at her, “Have you talked to your parents yet?”

“Nope.” Said Samantha, “It’s okay, because after I left Jake, I left them too but me and Megan will be fine here alone until we find our own place.”

“Alright don’t get me bitchy again, you’re staying here, I mean hell I’m not here.” Said Nick.

“Yeah…” said Samantha as she picked Megan up out of the highchair, “I’m going to go and get her down for a little nap before she eats.”

“Okay.” Said Samantha as Nick smiled and she walked out of the kitchen.

“Nick sat there on the bed later that night looking at his passport, and then sticking it in his bag and put down beside the bed. He looked down at it when he heard the door cracked open and saw Samantha walked in holding Megan.

“Hey she asl…” asked Nick as Samantha put her finger up to her mouth telling him to be quiet.

“Yeah I finally got her to go back to sleep.” Said Samantha as she put Megan in her crib.

“Good…” whispered Nick as he took his watch off and put it on the nightstand beside the bed as Samantha looked over at Nick, walking over and sitting down on the bed.

“You know.. it’s so wrong for us to sleep in the same bed like this.. I mean for the past two weeks.” Said Samantha as Nick cut his eyes over at her.

“Well you wanted me to stay in here, you wouldn’t let me sleep on the floor or bring another bed in here…. It’s a big bed, just like you said before.” Said Nick as Samantha got up under the covers, layed down on her side and looked at him as he leaned over and turned the little light out.

“Nick…” said Samantha as he looked over and down at her.

“Yeah?” asked Samantha.

“I wanna thank you for everything… that you’ve down well not just the past two weeks but sense we met back up.” Said Samantha.

“I haven’t done that much, just be there for a friend.” Said Nick.

“No.. seriously if I hadn’t of had you when me and Megan had gotten into that wreck… I swear I wouldn’t be here right now. I would have killed myself or something.” Said Samantha.

“No you wouldn’t…” said Nick as he looked away.

“Yeah I would… Megan was my she was like my sister, I mean, you know how close we were. We could finish…” said Samantha as Nick interrupted her.

“Each other’s sentences..” said Nick as Samantha started to smile a little.

“Exactly… I’m just glad that you were here for me because well Megan was my like.. well my.. my sister and you’re like my brother in a few ways. I know I have one but I never see him anymore or anything, but I’ve always wanted a older brother and even though you’re just a few months older… you’re like that.” Said Samantha as Nick looked away and over to the opposite side of him.

“Well I’ve got 4 sisters… I don’t need another one…” said Nick as he looked back over at Samantha, “Wait I didn’t mean it like that… I meant it like I don’t well… you’re my best friend. I can talk to you about everything and the guys won’t know.”

“Yeah…” said Samantha, “I wish we didn’t loose contact back then.”

“Nobody’s fault but my own I guess…” said Nick as he laid back in bed and looked over at her, “You sure you’re gonna be okay here without me, I mean I can get a guard here to stay with ya and all..”

“I’ll be fine, I promise. I’ve been away from Jake two weeks.. I’m over it.” Said Samantha.

“Good.” Said Nick as he smiled and looked away, “Ya know.. I was thinking maybe on your birthday or around it, you and Megan could fly over to where we are… I mean I don’t know where we’ll be at or anything, hell I could find out easily, but maybe you can fly over because I’m gonna miss you two and the guys are crazy about Megan, especially Howie so..” as he looked back over at her to see her already asleep, “So… nevermind…”

Nick sat there a few minutes looking at the ceiling, before closing his eyes and finally going to sleep.

Nick got up early that next morning, got dressed, and was ready to leave for the airport while Samantha was still in bed asleep. He just stood there, over looking her, wanting to tell her so bad what he was feeling but knew he couldn’t.

“Sam… Sammy, wake up..” whispered Nick as Samantha opened her eyes.

“Hey, you’re about to leave?” asked Samantha as she laid there looking up at Nick, smiling.

“Yeah.. I just wanted to tell you goodbye.” Said Nick as Samantha sat up and crawled up to him on her knees.

“Well goodbye.” Said Samantha as they started to hug and Nick looked around as he ran his hand down her back.

“I’ll call when we get there.” Whispered Nick as they stopped hugging.

“Okay, have a safe trip okay.” Said Samantha as she surprised him by giving him a quick little kiss on the lips.

“Umm.. I will.” Said Nick who still seemed confused by the kiss.

“Okay, uhh… I don’t want you to leave, but bye, just go or I’ll never let you go.” Said Samantha, “Shoo.. get out.”

“Okay..” said Nick smiling as he looked over at Megan who was asleep, “Bye.” As he walked out not looking back at Samantha.

Samantha just sat there looking sad as she layed back down, pulling the covers up to her and went back to sleep.

“Nick.. what’s wrong, you’re quiet….” Said Kevin a few hours later as he sat down in the seat next to Nick who was looking out the window.

“Nothin..” said Nick.

“Sam?” asked Kevin.

“I just don’t like leaving her there in Tampa with Jake right there and he knows we left today and he’s going to do any little thing to get her back.” Said Nick.

“Well she won’t take him back.” Said Kevin.

“I hope not, she promised me not anymore, but her promises… she’s promised me a lot of stuff and most of the time, she’s lying.” Said Nick.

“After what happened Nick.. I don’t think she’s that stupid.” Said Kevin as Nick looked at him.

“I hope so..” said Nick, “I hope so..”
