Chapter 13

Chapter 13

“Uh, you again? I thought I got rid of you a few huurs ago?” she asked, as he was silent.

“Kidding dumbass, kidding, good god you are dense,” she said, as she cracked up. “Uh, hang on, call waiting,” she said, as she clicked over.

“Hello?” she asked.

“Hey baby,” she heard Jake say.

“Hey Jake, what’s up?” she asked.

“Nothing, just missed you, wanted to talk,” he said.

“Oh, hang on okay?” she asked, as she clicked back over.

“Nick? Let me call you back,” Jake wants to talk to me, she said.

“Oh, I see how it is, I’m your best friend, but when your piece of ass calls, I get the shove off,” he said, laughing.

“Piece of ass? Is that what you call your women? I don’t want to know what you say about me behind my back,” she said.

“Oh please,” he said, as he laughed at her.

“Anyway, you know that isn’t true about me and Jake. Let me call you right back okay?” she asked him.

“Okay, bye,” Nick said.

“Jake?” Samantha said, as she clicked the phone back over.

“Yeah baby, I’m here. So how have you been? How’s it been, hanging with Nick?” he asked.

“Oh it’s been great, I hardly ever get to see him and all,” she said excitedly, but then she stopped herself. “Just hanging out, you know how it is.”

“Well that’s cool, just making sure you aren’t dumping me for the pretty boy,” he said, jokingly.

“Nope, not a chance. You know Nick and I are just friends. You have nothing to worry about,” Samantha said.

“Alright, I will let you get to sleep, I love you,” he said.

“I love you too, goodnight,” she said, as they hung up.

Sam got up of the floor to put her pj’s on so she could get into bed. She couldn’t help but to see herself smiling in the mirror, which gave her an even bigger cheesy grin. She got into bed and dialed Nick’s number.

A few hours later, Samantha said goodbye to Nick and hung up. They had decided to spend their last day scuba diving in Tampa Bay, Nick really wanted to swim with the dolphins. Samantha was sad that he would be leaving day after tomorrow, but knew that he was going to see his parents in California for a week or so before going to rehearsals over there. So they had decided to make the best of tomorrow, it would probably be the last time that they saw each other until Thanksgiving.

Nick picked Samantha up at the crack of dawn to get an early start. He was so excited, this was something he really wanted to do, and who better than one of his best friends to do it with. Nick knew she would be bitching about getting up so early, so he came prepared with coffee and donuts.

“Morning!” Nick said cheerily, as Samantha got into the truck.

Samantha just groaned in response.

“I was expecting that reaction, so I came with reinforcements,” he said, as he handed her the cup of coffee.

“Thanks,” she said, as she took it and smiled.

“Ready?” he asked, as she nodded her head yes, and they headed off.

“Oh my god, that was so damn cool!” Samantha exclaimed, as her and Nick were driving to go have a final lunch at their Pizza Hut.

“Dude, that was, I swear I haven’t had such a good time in a long while. Man I am starving,” he said, as she laughed at him.

“Oh, there’s a shocker,” she said, as they both went to laughing.

Nick and Samantha ate a large pizza each, until they were both sick, but they didn’t care. They just sat there eating, laughing, and carrying on. They went on and on about their day, both having such a great time. Nick told her about the plans the guys had, and their career was starting to really get going. She was thrilled.

After they dragged themselves out of the Pizza Hut almost two hours later, Samantha was dreading saying goodbye to him. But she knew he had an early flight, and knowing him, he hadn’t even packed yet.

Nick walked her up to her front door, and they stood there on the porch.

“Well, I guess this is it,” Nick said, sticking his hands in his pockets.

“Yeah, be careful okay? Have a safe trip and all,” she said.

“I don’t want to go, but I have to,” Nick said, as he looked away.

“Hey, it’s not goodbye, just see ya later. And anyway, you know you’re going to call me in what, 2 hours?” she asked, as she smiled.

“Yeah you’re right,” he said, “I gotta get home and pack and all, but I’ll call ya before I go to sleep,” Nick said.

“Okay, give me a hug,” she said, as they embraced, standing there for at least a minute before pulling away.

“Be safe now, don’t want to lose my phone buddy,” she said, as he smiled.

“I will, I’ll talk to you tonight,” he said, as he got into his truck to go.

Samantha stood there on the porch, and waved to him as he drove off. She wrapped her arms around her middle, almost hugging herself. She was sad he was leaving, but that frown turned into a smile when she remembered the past week. They had had a lot of fun. She hadn’t had so much fun since, well since New Year’s Eve with Megan. She looked at her watch, knowing that Jake was just finishing soccer practice about now, and decided to go over to school and see him. She ran in the house to grab her keys and hopped in the car.
